Check the engine oil level and condition. The engine oil can cause the VTEC to malfunction since it lubricates the VTEC system. Try changing the oil and filter and use a really good oil like Castrol, Mobile 1 or Pennzoil. Also make sure your coolant is at the proper level as well. The coolant goes through the VTEC as well. If you replaced/cleaned the VTEC then you lost some coolant and the coolant could be low. The stuttering could also be caused by the distributor. This generation Accord has a common problem of having oil leak into the distributor. A new distributor can be bought from a place like 1aauto.com for $115 (I got one and it is working just fine).

Thanks when I cleaned VTEC I topped off all fluids oil and coolant. Turned codes off drove car and around 2 hrs later code p1259 came back and stuttered @ 4,000 rpm but to me the weird thing is cut off car and re crank you can go without stutter @ 4,000 then randomly comes back. Just some open thinking is the VTEC selonoid is just randomly opening and is starting to go out. But I appreciate any thoughts and suggestion I'm willing to try within reason thanks

I think I found in another post that the VTEC is connected to the speed sensor. If the speed sensor is off or not working right, it won't let the VTEC come on. That would keep it from going above 4000 rpms. I am not an expert but try doing a search on this forum for "VTEC" and/or "won't go above xxxx rpms" and you may see where there are some additional details on this or other ideas. Good luck.
