My 99accord did the same thing.it ran for months without problems, then problem city.then it would be good again. Until one day it wouldn't start again unless i held the key foward. I can't say for sure that's your problem. Your contacts may not be completely shotthat is a common problem with those year/model hondas

Car has been starting but now it's getting a code 15 as well. Still afraid to trust it.

Started acting up again and I checked the wire for voltage and I'm getting
voltage there. I checked every blk/yel wire I could find and got voltage everwhere. I also tried holding the key like others suggest and it still shuts off in about the same amount of time. 2 to 3 sec.

RULEMKR-sounds like you have a coil or ICM issue.....have voltage to dist, need to see if you are getting spark out...I'm betting not.

Actually I am. I checked it with spark tester. Car starts for about 2-3 seconds then quits like its uses the fuel from the fuel pump prime and then stops. If I do not go back to the 1 position it just cranks with no start like theres no fuel.

This problem still haunts me. If it's really cold outside it will start everytime.
Soon as temps reach more than 65 for more than a day it returns to the same old symptoms. I tried freezing the relay (I'm desperate) and it does'nt make a difference. I have 2 main relays and it will start with both when it statrs and it will not start with both when it wont. Only thing I havent changed is fuel pump and ignition switch or ecm. Suggestions? Anybody?

Code 15 is for ignition output.........which is usually something inside the dist.

So, net time the conditions are right and it does this, spray carb cleaner into the tb, open the butteryfly for this and see if it will start.

It does not seem to affect anything. It will crank and run for about the same amount of time. 2 or 3 seconds.
Tempatures are supposed to go down tonight so I will see if it cranks in the morning.

Of course; It cranks and runs. It's freezing out. It will probably run now until temps warm up for at least 2 days.

I saw someone jumped on here. Tho u may not the exact same issue I was having one my 93 accord, I was able to troubleshoot the problem and change out the ignition switch. Quite simple in the cb7. The "switch " itself is secured to the back of the ignition on the steering column. I had it out and replaced in about 30 min. Its about $50 at autozone.
here's the shortcut to troubleshoot my issue. When it starts and dies (is it progressively worsened over time) , the only way for the car to stay running was to hold the key just past the on/ relaxed position, just after starting, without striking the starter. Then I'd came to one of these forums and shared my issue...
The end.

Na, sorry, hope that helps someone. Obviously if u are getting your car to run by holding on to your key, then youll know its probably just the ignition switch.

My 95 4 cyl vtec does same thing i have changed main relay , fuel pump tested ingition switch yellow black wire while running and after it dies its working fine . i can keep mine running on carb cleaner. So I think it is some kind of sensor ,ecu or injectors shutting off fuel? I am about to put a match to it . It only does it when its above 60 degrees . I also have to turn ignition back to position 1 to re start. Any ideas would be GREATLY APPRECIATED????? THANKS

what controls the fuel pump after prime? Main relay controls prime does ECU control fuel pump after that . Like I said in previous post I can keep it running on carb cleaner. so definately fuel related????

Have you tested voltage to the pump?

After the car is running there is a "signal" from the ecu..........how good are you with a volt meter?

Update on my 95 accord. Thought it was fuel the whole time cause I was getting spark. Must have been air. Iacv or throttle body dirty. Bought a can of chemtool throttle bony cleaner. Sprayed through the intake while running if it starts to die give it a squirt it started running without dying. Continued to spray until can was gone runs great now. But I had the same start and die situation every time until this. I had changed the main relay tested ignition and changed fuel pump and filter

Alright car ran great for four days then did same thing . I am getting code 3 MAF and code 15 ignition output . Going to change MAF first to see . Funny thing about code 15 is it will run on carb cleaner and when it is doing it I still have spark

I have a 96 prelude that starts up and stalls immediately. The only way it will stay running is if I turn the key over to the start pos. Wile running. I think it might not be getting proper fuel flow. Although it is getting enough prime. And that is what keeps the engine running... But I was told the fillter was in the tank then told it was under the hood. Can any one tell me were its at. This is the first time I have worked on a Japanese car

Kind of the wrong section for this but if holding the key "slightly forward" - towrads start keeps the car running - Replace the electrical part of the ign switch.
