Targa250R had the description of the location in your other post:

The same sensor is used for both VTEC and non-VTEC models. Make sure it is plugged in, undamaged, and connected to the proper hoses.

Do you have a sedan, a coupe, or a wagon? Wagons do not have this sensor and use a different ECM.
Here is an image of the vent pressure sensor.

You can get it through Advanced Auto; but, it's almost the same as the dealer. Dealer list is around $168. Their website shows a Duralast brand for $149. Rock Auto has an Airtex one for $149.

holy crap. i've never heard of these going bad before.. would it be a safer bet to get one off someone parting out a car? Are they common going bad or more a freak thing?

just a thought.. but since i swapped ECU's and heads, is it possible those two sensors (o2 and fuel tank pressure) are swapped in the harness like in the earlier cars?

The pressure sensor is 3 terminals and the oxygen sensor is 4 terminals and are different shapes, so they could not be incorrectly be switched with each other.

i mean down in the Ecu wiring harness. i know on the 4th gen cars they have to swap those pins.

"Prepping the ECU:

This was really easy for me. While I do have brand new pushpins (hey I used to do a lot of motorswaps) I reused what WAS my automatic rear motormount solenoid (this is also the IAB on 90-93 EX models or anything else that was equiped
with IAB) and powersteering (I removed mine) pressure sender pins. If you didn't already know Honda was really nice and you can snap open the connectors on the ECU side and move pins around. No matter WHAT way you decide to do this you need to add two pins: D6 (VTP) and A4 (VTS) [See wiring harness pinout chart I've included]. The VTP ground... well just ground it anywhere. It doesnt matter, its just a simple on/off pressure switch.

NOW for 4th gen owners we get to do a little more work/make a choice. In 1994 Honda decided to swap pins A11 and A6 (EGR & 02 Heater respectivly). To my knowledge this is the only OBDI car Honda did this on. ANYWAY your choices are
as following:

1.) Swap pins A11 & A6 while you have connector "A" apart adding VTP.
2.) Open up the P0A ECU and cut A11 & A6 and reverse them via internal modification (IE: wires crossing them... see attached picture)."

just a thought because i have both those codes and my o2 sensor and fuel pressure sensor werent bad before the swap..

A11 & A6 are for the O2 heater circuit and the EGR control circuit. It's not for the the purge control solenoid.

This wire swap is usually only a problem when swapping between 4th gen and 5th gen Accords.

I may have one of these in a drawer down in the garage that hasn't been in use since 2001. Worked fine when I removed my EVAP system from my car. Let me look about and I'll get back to you.

Oh hey sorry about that! I wasn't able to find a fuel tank pressure sensor (P0453) as shown above. I don't remember my 96 Accord having anything like that. The only thing I could find was the EVAP purge control solenoid valve.

okay i still really want to figure this out lol. I guess i need to get a new sensor. I just find it weird it was working before my head swap as was my o2 sensor and im throwing a code for both of them. I'm wondering if the ecu might be bad, or if i actually might have just messed them up somehow. I did not change intake manifolds, so i don't think that i could have gotten the lines messed up on the fuel tank sensor, which by the way is throwing a p0453, but maybe i pinched one when i moved the intake around? I'm pretty stumped with this one, i guess i should just get a new one and replace it, and same with the o2 sensor.

So, i went and bought a new sensor.. well this one is 3 pronged and the one on my car is 2 pronged.. as well as the connector on the car. I looked for a LX ( non vtec one) on majestic and they don't have one. So, i have no idea what to do.. i might see if i can find the resistance and put in resistors so i can pass emissions

does anyone know the resistance i need to go across it so it will stop tripping the MIL? I know its got to be 5v but what resistor do i need?

I been having the same p0543 code on my 1996 accord lx ever since I got a swap to vtec from non vtec. I replaced sensors and I am still getting the cell code. I am thinking the resistor would fix the code so I can smog it.

Thanks a bunch

Default 1996 accord LX/EX P0453 pressure tank sensor -- mystery solved

I have a '96 and yep, there is no pressure tank sensor, just a blank space where the diagrams show one on the firewall. I had a different problem and got a used ECU (from a 1997 or 1998 Accord -- date of manufacture was August 1997) to try to sort it out. After I started using the newer ECU it started throwing the P0450 and P0453 codes. That makes sense -- if there's no tank pressure sensor, the ECU should throw a sensor code. I put the old ECU (manufactured in 1995) back in and the code is gone for good.

So even though a '97 or '98 ECU will run the '96 engine just fine, it's always going to throw the P0453 code.
