1993 accord fuel filter- epic fail
Hey all, so im trying to change my fuel filter, and I couldn't really find any videos or good how to's. The one's I found make it seem very easy. I found this to be wrong lol. How the hell do you get that big black box( master fuel relay? ) out of the way? there are connections on it that cant be taken out( like the red bungee cord looking thing) . And also, I remember in my jetta I would take out the fuel fuse, do I do this in the accord? Do I loosen the bolt on the fuel line to relieve pressure ? A step by step would be awesome. Thanks all.
Also found 2 loose wires when I took out my air intake.Any chance anyone can identify ?

Those wires aren't factory.
To do this job you'll need a crows foot wrench (to hold the fuel fitler) with a decently sized extension and a spanner wrench to break the nut loose from underneath the car. (youll be standing/laying directly underneath the drivers seat.)
Then from there you will have to do some left hand gymnastics to get the banjo free.
After that you will need to remove the filter bracket (I think they were 12mm heads) with what should be only two bolts if i rememeber correctly.
The hardest part is getting the banjo bolt and the copper washers all back on without dropping them 50 times on the floor. Reverse of removal is the installation of course.
The factory service manual's method requires you to drain the fluids of the powersteering system and moving the lines out of the way and a few other things I cannot recall.
To disable the fuel pump, find the relay, the fuse, or just unbolt the ground.

Thanks deadlock, isn't the fuel filter on the passengers side if looking at the hood.
What do I need to go under car for ? I got as far as taking the banjo off and putting it all back once I realized I wasn't sure what I was doing lol.
Would like to know what those wires are

Absolutely not. That's the charcoal canister lol. The fuel filter is between the subframe and the power steering rack on the drivers side chassis.

OP, you don't have a '93 Accord. If you did, you wouldn't be asking all these questions.
You just need a set of crows feet. I've never done one on a 5th gen accord but I know that with a set of crows feet and a crescent wrench and a set of flare wrenches it's doable without moving anything out of the way.

If you don't have the second wrench on there you will begin bend and twist components. At the worst you can twist your fuel line and you can go have fun with that.
As I was saying, you'll have to follow that conduit and look for that wires reappearance later down the line. It isn't a wire that the car had from the factory.

Re: 1993 accord fuel filter- epic fail
I can post a picture of it. It REALLY looks to me like it's on the passenger side like leflore said. The guides I saw never said anything about having to go under the car, Im starting to get scared lol, thought it was a easy job.
So I found out the wires were after market, My buddy suspects from a old fog light set up. But nonetheless, it was spliced into the headlight wire. So we took it all out, re soldered the wire to the original and shrink taped it. So that's good.
This is the video I referenced for the fuel filter.

if that's the same setup as your car then you indeed have a '93 and you don't even need crows feet...you just need a 14mm flare wrench and a crescent wrench and you're good to go...you're probably trying to use an opened ended wrench on that fuel bolt which can be disastrous as you will strip it in no time.
get a flare wrench set and you'll have it replaced in no time
