1992 honda accord transmission problems
Automatic transmission on 92 accord.
Stuck with a square around the [P] and around the [D4]
I cannot shift it at all unless I put the key next to the shifter and put it into neutral, then when I put it in D4.. it has a square around D4 and D3.
I jumped the 2-pin connector to get the check engine codes, and the D4 flashed for the codes which I am assuming means its codes for the TCU.
The codes were:
5-Shift Lever Position S witch circuit shorted.
7-Shift Solenoid 'A' circuit open or shorted.
8-Shift Solenoid 'B' circuit open or shorted.
14-Linear (line pressure control) solenoid open or shorted.
Does this mean I need a new TCU or are all of these solenoids bad and I need to replace the solenoids?
In other words does a bad TCU show solenoids as failing if they are not truly failing?

Re: 1992 honda accord transmission problems
Code 7 and 8 may be due to the shift solenoid connector disconnected, corroded or gummed up. Lower pair of solenoids are the 'shift' solenoids.
Disconnect it from the main harness and using a jumper wire directly power each solenoid from the battery. If you have an audible click then most likely the connection is dirty or there is a wiring issue.
Code 14 is the FAS wire. This is the communication wire between the ECU and TCU. Check the wiring harness between the ECU and TCU is undamaged.
If the shifter is not unlocking when depressing the brake pedal, verify the brake pedal switch is functional, and that the lockout solenoid on the shifter is receiving power.
Did this happen after recent work?
Did it just spontaneously happen?
Or is this a project car with no known history?
