I have an oil leak. Not sure where it's coming from. I had the valve cover gasket, rear main seal, and the o rings in the dizzy replaced last month. I am noticing there is fresh gunk buildup near the speed sensor. I checked around the valve cover and dizzy and they look fine. It's a slow drip and it's a gravitating drip. I now believe it's coming from the top of the engine but not sure where to start looking. Thanks.

It's the power steering speed sensor or the hoses going to it.

I'd also inspect the vtec soleniod (upper part and where it meets the head) for leaks.

Are you loosing engine oil or ps fluid....

I guess when I replaced the oil pan gasket a few months ago, didn't take care of the oil leak? I will have to get back to you on whether or not i"m loosing oil or power steering fluids. Where's the power steering connector located? color? What about the vtec solenoid? color and location? Thanks in advance guys. If it is the power steering connector, is the part expensive and easy for me to do myself? What about the vtec solenoid?

Back side of the head, dist end. There are two gaskets/o-rings tha seal it, upper o-ring (#12) and then the part where it mounts to the head (#10).

do the bolts to the solenoid require a certain amount of torque? Also, are the seals easy to seat once taken apart? What about the #10 o ring?

Yes, yes. Both #10 and #12 can, do leak. Clean it up, start it up and see if either (#10, #12) are leaking.

@poorman, I checked the body of the solenoid, there is oil on it. Can you tell me how far down to reach for the #10 or #12 gaskets? Also, when replacing these gaskets, what components can I remove to get better access to the bolts? Would I need to remove the dizzy to access the front bolt?

When you take off the solenoid, the #10 gaskets are on the side. I believe #12 gasket is held in by screws from the top.

Just look at the picture that we're talking about. It's very straightforward. Two bolts for the two gaskets, and three screws for the gasket that's at the top.

@holmesmanny, my vehicle is a 1996 Accord Ex F22b1. Based on the diagram, the vtec solenoid is on the tranny side behind the dizzy. The #27 bolt is inverted and is facing the front of the car. My concern is that I can see the bolt on the side, however, the #27 bolt is on the inside under the triangle of the vtec solenoid. Just trying to make my job easier if I can remove components to access the gaskets. Sorry I'm not trying to be difficult. Novice mechanic.

Update: I was able to replace the figure 8 gasket in the vtec solenoid. I was trying to take the bottom bolts, but the socket I have doesn't fit and my extension bar isn't allowing me to get it low enough. Any suggestions as to how to get to the bottom bolts? I have 10mm socket that pivots. I'd like to tackle it this weekend if I could. Thanks.

One thing that is most important is to have the correct tools for the job or you're going to make things either worse or more work. Try using a universal joint while using the correct socket. Universal joints come in real handy in hard to reach places.
