Yea the main difference was the EFI vs carb'd. The LX-i/SE-i engines were the same (BT for '86/A20A3 for '87-89) and were fuel injected, but there were a few small differences between the 86-87 and 88-89. The DX and LX engines were the same (BS for '86/A20A1 for '87-89), and were carb'd and remained the same for all 4 years. The 88-89 A20A3 got a few tweaks, like a dual stage intake manifold, modified valve timing, 4-2-1 exhaust header instead of 4-1, and they upped the compression ratio from 8.8:1 to 9.3:1. This added 10 hp and 8 ft. lbs of torque.
Specs are:
86-89 DX/LX -- 98 hp/109 ft. lbs torque, 9.1:1 CR, POS 2 bbl Keihin carb
86-87 LX-i -- 110 hp/114 ft. lbs torque, 8.8:1 CR, PGM-FI
88-89 LX-i/SE-i -- 120 hp/122 ft. lbs torque, 9.3:1 CR, PGM-FI
