01 Honda Accord vibration during acceleration
I got 01 Honda Accord 4 cyl / manual. I have 118,000 on odometer.
When in 3rd gear accelerating fairly heavy (mostly up slope since it requires more torque) the wheels/car start vibrating around 50 mph to 60 mph. The vibration is only there if i am pushing the gas pedal fairly well, that is giving torque to the wheels.
There are no vibrations when cruising at 50 mph on flat area, coasting at 50 mph and no vibrations when braking.
Also I just had my half-axles replaced (cv joints), shocks have been replaecd fairly recently (within 30,000 miles) and front and rear engine mounts are brand new. (around 3 months).
Let me know what is your take guys.
Thanks

Re: 01 Honda Accord vibration during acceleration (Terabass)
The symptoms you describe are sometimes due to worn inner CV joints. Your rebuilt replacement shalfts could be suspect.

Re: 01 Honda Accord vibration during acceleration (Perfectionist)
I checked the Haynes manual.
It says this:
Trouble shooting Issue #56:
Shudder or vibration during acceleration
1. Excessive toe-in (Chapter 10)
2. Incorrect spring heights (Chapter 10)
3. Worn or damaged inboard or outboard CV Joints (Chapter 8)
4. Sticking inboard CV joint assembly (Chapter 8)
Anyway, most of it is pretty clear, but what the hell do they mean by "incorrect spring heights" ... I have replaced my springs about 30,000 miles ago but I have not had the problem for more than last 5,000 - 7,000 miles..it has become more apparent recently. Anyway does anyone know what that means exactly??
Thanks guys. Ergh this is gonna be a tough one to take care of again.

Re: 01 Honda Accord vibration during acceleration (Terabass)
*bump* My car is doing the same 90 Honda accord, and i get different opinions every mechanic i talk to. Motor mount here, Tires out of round here, Shocks dead here, Im sick of giving these sonsofbitches money, and I know this is a common problem, no one seems to know anything about. Come on, someone out there knows what to do!! Help us out! Thanks.

I think it's the CV joints, I am going to replace both of my CV joints, they are notorious to go out on Honda's i've heard.

Okay, I replaced my front driver side one today, if the car vibrates on acceleration only, its the inner cv joint tripot bearing failing, I'd buy a new one over a remanufactured one because my passenger side is a reman and its already loosening up the mechanic told me. But at any rate, vibration is gone, cv axle it is!

Thanks for the update. BTW, I replaced my shafts with ones from Raxels.com. I heard too many stories of the rebuilts from the big box auto stores. Even though they offer a lifetime warranty, it's a job I'd rather do once and be done with. And, Marty is very knowledgeable and helpful in case you have an out of the ordinary application, or just plain questions.

Re: 01 Honda Accord vibration during acceleration (Terabass)
My car had the joints redone under the rebuilders warranty and they are still stiff, especially with the drop i got on it i still get the vibration, but its going away slowly cause the mechanic said it should wear in with time.
