No commute time (10 mins vs 45-120 mins).
No trains.
No METROs/subways.
No parking fees.

Hell yes, depends heavily on the increase in the cost of housing though . . .

For me, living 3 miles from work means living in manhattan or ungodly expensive sections of brooklynn and queens.

No thanks, I'll take the 45 minute subway ride and keep the cheap (relatively speaking) rent.

If you are in a good financial position and that aspect wouldn't negatively affect your quality of life then hell yeah. 1-2 hours extra in your day not sitting in the frustrating mess that is rush hour traffic is a big bonus.

I currently live 3 miles from the possible place of employment. I roughly calculated my "commute" expenses last night and it totalled around 10K a year (this includes eating at work)

Considering I spend $40 on gas a week and 10% would be over $100, I am going to say no.

I work 3 miles from work and could never see going back.

My commute by car is 15 minutes.
My commute by bicycle is 10 minutes.

I put a half tank of gas in my car per MONTH.

Nevermind the time I save compared to someone that sits in a car or train for 1-3 hours a day. Screw that.

Yeah im 4 miles away

I pay the rent I do and can't buy a house because of it, but I really cant see myself sitting in a car for 2hrs+ a day

Think of it this way. You can save an hour of free time a day and put in an extra hour at work daily for OT or to get a quick promotion. If you are happier overall, your performance at work may be better and that 10% may dissipate quickly

I'm pretty sure this thread doesn't apply to you then.

I can't imagine ever driving that far to get to work in the first place. Seems very counter-productive.

If it is what you want to do I'd say yes. I did it 2 moths ago, went from 45min+ to less than 5min. The small cut in pay was offset by my great deal of savings in fuel and aggravation of driving in traffic.
