Default would you sue for $100 on general principle?

Back on 5/15 I left a $100 deposit (cash) on a $600 sc400 that needed some minor work and a tow.

I didn't take the car at that time because I was unwilling to purchase without a title which was supposed to come "any day now."

Well the kid (fresh out of HS) stalled and stalled saying the title was on the way for a week or so, then two, until I asked for my deposit money back, then he claimed he had to wait till payday, then he stalled some more till the next payday.

At some point during this stalling, he sold the car to someone else.

Now he's telling me to kick rocks and that the deposit was for "wasting his time."

So... is it worth pursuing in civil court purely on general principle?

I have some time off over the summer, and it might be a nice learning opportunity in seeing how the civil court system works.

I wouldn't have left the deposit if I couldn't **** it away, but at the same time we had a verbal agreement and a handshake (not sure that means anything to this younger generation), and there were two witnesses - one of whom was a buddy who went with me to check out the car.

*I did keep screen shots of all our conversations on fb, which corroborate my story.

In your case since it sounds like you can't lose. yes, your suit can include any court fees and time lost, off of work or whatever as well.

lol Americans. You'll sue for anything

If you want the experience then go for it I guess. Sounds like waste of time for $100 though.

Not worth your time. Take off your license plate down the street in case someone has cameras, go drive by and throw your dog ****, old eggs, whatever item of your choice all over his / his parents driveway and porch.

Actually yes. Helped my brother move into a new neighborhood. We went to walk his dog before getting some beers and while waiting at a crosswalk, we were both watching cars and traffic. He dig peed on the corner houses fence my brother would normally never let him pee on a fence but was distracted with traffic. This lady comes storming out yelling at us like we just killed her cat or something. We have no idea what’s going on but she’s all pissed at his dog yelling how dogs pee on it and owners leave their dog **** there. Total bitch.

So we waited a month or so until he had a ton of dog **** and went and threw it all over that fence and her front yard as well as a few beer bottles we were drinking. Welcome to the neighborhood.

Yeah, I'd sue strictly out of principle. Not so much for me, but for him and anyone he deals with in the future. Hopefully the experience will grow him up.

If he's a yung gun, threaten him with legal action. Have a lawyer friend write up a demand letter or whatever they're called and send it to him. Chances are the kid will fold.

I walked away from $3K because I didn't want to deal with courts, lawyers, and the fact that I would still likely never get paid. I took it as a lesson to never let anyone else shop a mechanic to work on my car, no matter how busy I am. So no, I would not sue for $100 on general principle, I would chalk it up as a lesson to never leave money with anyone questionable. I would say a random HS aged kid that you don't know fit's that bill.

Same here. In fact I'd be more likely to sue over a small amount where I feel really wronged than a large amount that I just thought I could get. It's not the money, it's the message\lesson.

Sounds like a solid plan, if not throw **** all over his driveway/ porch as backup.
