I thoroughly enjoy DJ'ing. I've kind of pigeonholed myself as the local 80's and 90's guy, and I'm good at playing that stuff while keeping the younger crowd into it. The place I've been playing at for the last 5ish years is very restrictive on even that playlist, especially 90's rap. So it gets to be a routine I don't always look forward to.

I make about $200 more in 12 hours DJ'ing than I do 25 hours a week at my day job. DJ'ing is only Friday and Saturday. When I roll in at 3:15 in the morning, I still need to unwind, and I usually don't get to sleep until about 4:00, 4:30, sometimes 5:00. My wife usually handles the weekend mornings when I DJ. I am awake at about 10:00. I let her sleep in on the weekends I don't DJ.

Short answer, yes, money/schedule offsets sleep and allows us to not have to get daycare.

I imagined there was some therapeutic aspect on your end, and I was right. Figured no way you were doing it just for the money if you didn't still enjoy it.

Yes, I'm being totally serious, I am awake for 30 hours every Monday and have been on this schedule since October 29th of last year. And you what the worst part about it is? I'm only making $89k a year.

I only work Mon-Thurs, hours from 2ish to midnight-ish. I don't get up til about 1pm, but I go to bed anywhere from 4:30-6am, depends how easy it is to fall asleep. I work out when I get home which can take 1-2 hours depending on what I have scheduled that day. Then eating plus shower is another hour or so. With the leftover time, I do my hobbies like playing guitar, old video games, watching something, etc. Fri-Sun I still wake up at the same time to keep the schedule but it's incredibly laid back. Live alone with no kids and am single so plenty of time to myself.

randomly awakened 1-2 times in the middle of the night to feed crying baby
same child typically wakes up for good at 5:30
6:30 wife leaves for work
6:45 - get bigger kid up. He does everything himself except putting toothpaste on his toothbrush
7:00 - shower and get little kid dressed
7:45 head to big kid school, then little kid daycare
8:40 - 5:10 - work
6PM - arrive home and eat dinner while my wife looks at her cell pone (kids and wife get home at 5 and will eat dinner before I get home)
7PM-7:30 - bathe kids and put them to bed, wife goes to bed
8 PM - 10PM - gym
10PM - 1AM - shower, chill, bed

I base my days off when the kid goes to bed as it impacts the next day.

7:00-7:20pm - baby goes to sleep
7:30-12pm - watch the Celtics lose
6am - wake up - feed baby a bottle

after this there are no routines until 7pm, no two days are the same unfortunately.

5:30 am. Wake up. Splash water on face, brush teeth, put on coveralls and hard hat and at work in 10 minutes from waking.

Work 12 hours minimum, average about 14 with covering shifts, crew change days, staying over to fix things when something breaks, or being woken up in the middle of the night.

To-go box from the galley for food and eat out at work. Lots of coffee.

Get off. Strip down coveralls.

Hit the rig's weight room.

Shower.

Climb into bunk, listen to a downloaded podcast and pass out.

Repeat 7 days a week. Currently starting my 7th straight week and will probably be doing 8 weeks.

1. 6:45 - 7:36 wake up and get kids up; they make their own breakfast and get dressed themselves (7 and 9). I hop into the shower to get ready.
2. 7:45 - 7:55 drop the kids off at school, then head in for work.
3. 9:00 - 7:00 Work, this does not count commute; this is in the office.
4. 8:00 - 10:30 Eat dinner (family eats before me, kids are in bed by this time usually). Watch TV and do more work.
5. 10:30 - 11:00 Get ready for bed, snuggles with the wife and watch the evening news then go to sleep

rinse and repeat, sometimes I work later.

2am hit snooze
2:10 shower
2:45 leave to carpool Meetup
2:48 hop in van
~3am leave to work (only have to drive one day a week, sup)
~4:08 clock in for work
13:26 clock out and hop in van
~15:10 arrive home
15:15 get home
If it's Monday, I do yard work (garbage dumps on Tuesday)
Any other day, shower, and the rest of the day is me doing whatever I feel I need to do.
~20:00 go to sleep and do it all again the next day.

Haven't had two weeks off in going on 8 months now. Been on the rig for going on 7 weeks now, will probably be here for 8 this time.

But yeah my "commute" is like 75' lol.

You get used to it to some degree so 95-100 hour work weeks aren't as bad as it seems. Couple advantages of offshore life that make it a little more bearable:

1. No commute.
2. 24/7 laundry service. Throw my bag out the door of my room and my clothes show back up a few hours later washed and folded.
3. Don't have to maintain a nice professional appearance day in and day out. You wear coveralls and can walk around with a scraggly beard as no one cares so you aren't spending time prepping clothes and detail grooming every single day.
4. Meals are cooked for us.

So yeah you work a ton but I'm not spending time doing all of the other little things that normal people have to do at home. That means once I'm off for the day my 10-12 hours are typically all chill time. Downside is the chill time is on an oil rig out in the ocean lol.

And I'm not swinging a sledge hammer all day either. Plenty of slow days like today where I'll just be monitoring some tests. In better times we typically have better schedules but the past year we've been very short handed so I've been working a ton.

When I worked swing I had like no time throughout the week.

11am wake up eat poop shower pack lunch
1145 leave for work
105pm get to work
126 start work
12am leave work
130 get home, shower eat a snack
330 fall asleep
Granted, I had 3 days off which was nice, but I'd work OT on those Fridays if I didn't have plans.

With 2 hours less in a workday on days, I have like 5 hours more time where I'm able to do things.
