I do infact wonder. But upon further research it seems that it is true, for the 1st generation of Ipods and the problem is fixed now.

google > you.

I don't think the battery was replaceable period on the first-gens. Then as they started dying, people got pissed, and Apple changed the design.

Still not sure if they're user-replaceable or not.

HAHA best buy service plans as far as I know don't cover consumable parts. MEANING known to need replaced or will need replaced at some point. So your still screwed it only covers things that ARENT gonna happen or arent supposed too.

I have a first gen iPod, never had a problem with the battery, in fact I was so pleased with it I bought a fourth gen when they came out iPod's are a great product, keep in mind that if you look hard enough, you can find bad things about any product

Apple is gonna lose a lot of money now that the public knows about I-pods faulty18 month battery. $250.00 For something that lasts 18 months and to replace it is another $250.00 WTF? I'll never buy one now if the rumor is true.

It's obviously an older video. See the copyright at the end. This is why you never buy a first gen ANYTHING.

It's True.

I am experiencing a similar problem with my iPod. I've had it for a year and about 2 months now, and the battery will NOT last longer than 2 hours or so in a room temperature environment. If I wear it running or to the gym, and it's cold outside, the battery lasts even less.

I've heard it's $100 now. One of my buddies works at Circuit City, and apparently, if you bought it with the insurance, Circuit City would cover the cost free of charge.

I wish I knew that last year.

99.95% sure that they are not.

I bought the Belkin emergency battery pack for long trips, and for $60 the 4AA batteries make the iPod play for up to 25 hours on one set of AA's.
Here: http://store.apple.com/1-800-M...4LL/A

I hope one day Apple will get a little less **** about the replacement costs.

You can buy aftermarket replacable battteries for newer generation Ipods. This video refers to the 1st gens.

I've had mine for over 2 yrs. Depends on the POD. I have friends who have had theirs replaced. I use mine a ton too. Full of music and I'm constantly transfering big files with it. Gotta love that its a hard drive. Bump the video, to apple for a good product, that isnt ugly, like all the imitators.

I did not watch the video but I can tell you that they do have some issues with the battery. I think it is mostly the older ones that have problems - the new ones seem very solid.

even if it does, there is a way to pop open the case and get a new battery for it. I read about it in a popular mechanics magazine once but couldn't find the story on the intranet.

the battery is user replacable with several kits for under 50.

50 for a bettery to last a couple of years is fine.

quit your bitching.

i just bought an ipod yesterday and i loved it.

i also did some research before buying it and most places are selling the aftermarket batteries around $30-$50 and it doesnt seems like there is much to it to replace it.

for those who have a 3rd gen ipod for longer than a year, does your wheel still works ok? i'm curious if they're broken easily.

Some chick I was seeing had to replace her battery after about a year. She had to take it all apart and solder on some part and ****. Ipod I can't believe people were soooo into a product after only its 1st generation platform was released. I know its on its 3rd or 4th now but what I'm saying is that the 1st gen had such an impact in consumer purchasing that even 3rd party manufacturers are developing integration kits for them.

What I'm trying to get at is that soon, other companies will disect and learn from the Ipods and will make better units of their own. Yet, because of the overwhelming integration compatibility with the Ipods, people will not have a choice but to purchase another Apple brand. Can you say market dominance? Its like Msoft sqweezing the little (but better) guys.

No ipods have "easily" replaceable batteries. That video really only pertained to the 1st gen ipod. The last couple generation ipods have a good quality battery life.
