Default USA Destinations for Trip with Old College Buds? Austin vs. Nasville

So I've never been to either and we're trying to do the 3 nominations per person then vote. These two places seem to be gaining the most traction. Any thoughts about what do or what you'd prefer?

We also had mentioned Vegas / Miami but we're trying to just relax and enjoy ourselves as a group. Not necessarily looking to go bar hopping or pick up girls or anything like that. Most of us are in relationships or dads at this point.

Thoughts?

You're not planning on bar hopping or picking up chicks? Probably not planning on going to strip clubs and doing any nose candy either. I vote stay at home.

My vote would be Nashville given the options.

New Orleans has a lot to offer. Good food. Culture. Drinking if you want. Casinos. Good weather (mostly).

Austin sucks, Nashville is ok, neither make sense for a guy's trip, no matter how tame or relaxing. I'd say take an Eastern Caribbean cruise, you can have nice dinners, relaxing days, and a couple of opportunities to explore new places and have some good, wholesome, man fun.

With all due respect, why does Austin suck? I've heard nothing but good things about it has an excellent food scene, breweries, and unique places. It has faults like traffic, but in terms of places that pique my interest in Texas, Austin perhaps tops the list.

the brave ones will be cheating or at least going to a massage parlor.

either way do a google search for which city has the least number of STD's.

I concur. Both of these are very acceptable for men in relationships. All my "guy trips" have both of these as staples.

I'm not into the hip brewery scene, so it just wasn't for me. Maybe a little too eclectic and similar to certain parts of CO.

Offshore fishing trip out of Destin / Orange Beach / etc. This will be way more fun than either of those cities. Stay a few nights after fishing to go out or relax.

Fair enough, I think we have inverse preferences BUT ya, if one is not into those things then Austin would be kinda boring.

Imma force you to go on Peal Street for 8 hours and people watch, ha!

I'm in, I don't hate that scene at all, I've had a lot of fun, I just would't see myself basing a vacation around it, but I'd definitely brew with you.

Yeah, I totally get that. My ideal vacation is going somewhere like Hood River where I can wake up run/go for an epic hike and spend the whole day outside then hit up microbrews/local spots for dinner.

That's kind of what I was getting at in saying it sucks That being said, Nashville isn't much better on that front, especially for the parameters set. Guys trip, no bar crawling, no women chasing. If that's really the case, you need activities and fun **** to do, I don't think sight seeing is going to cut it.

The only "bro's trip" I have ever done was with my roommates in grad school to Vegas. It was pretty fun, but I really don't see the appeal of vegas and gambling provides me no amount of fun.

Austin has plenty of coke dens, don't get it twisted. The locals that gave that place its life are still existing in little pockets here and there.

Back on the original topic: Both cities are extremely similar in nature, I'd call it a toss up.

I will warn you, if strip clubs are a thing.... In Nashville (not sure if it's TN as a whole), they have to be so many feet away from you, it's very bizarre. But just a heads up if there's some friends thinking they have a hall pass and pay some chick a bunch of money to dance 5ft away from them.

I live in Nashville and I really like it but this. For a bunch of married guys I can't really see it being a guy trip kind of place.

Orange beach is just a pretty damn great places to chill out and do whatever. Relax and get drunk on the beach, eat a bunch of great fried seafood, go fishing, Florabama if you want to have a crazy bar/music night, and then you have the typical amusements like mini-golf, go-kart tracks, arcades etc.

Come to Austin if anyone in the group wants to bang good looking chicks. If you don't, there's not much here for a bros-trip unless you plan around a major event like F1, SXSW (coming up shortly), Texas Relays (if you like college track), ROT Rally (if you like bikes), or similar. There's always stuff going on, but I'd say you need something to keep you entertained throughout the day if you don't want to get bored, but in the free-time you'll have around what that thing is you'll be able to find plenty to keep you busy. Living here is awesome, but I don't really see it as a "destination" unless you're coming for something specific.

Looks like Nashville won the vote that's where we'll be going. Likely travel in on Thursday and stay Thurs / Fri / Sat night and depart Sunday, most likely in June. Curious to see what the town has to offer!

See if you can buy tickets for Chicken and Jorts 2019. Sounds like the perfect destination getaway for a Corvette owner.
