Default Trying to learn....

I was wondering if there was anyone willing to help me help my self by letting me be, for the lack of another word, apprentice, at their shop. I stay in Lawndale, CA. Southbay area. Dont have to pay me anything, just want to learn in a real world invironment. I know the basics already. Change oil, spark plugs, alternator, starter, shocks/struts, brakes, mind you this is all done on my ed7 hatch. I read a whole lot about cars but it isnt the same as wrenching on them. So if anyone ever needs extra help and wouldnt mind teaching pm me. Did I mention I was serious. No flake here.

Go be an industrial mechanic and work with the big tools. Industrial engineers > automotive engineers.

You mean you don't want to do work/manual labor on cars all day in a dirty shop with the rest of your car buddies? I suppose you want to sit in an air conditioned office with a nice cup of coffee and a good salary right? Get out of here with that rational thinking!

Whenever these threads pop up the first thing I start talking about are other skilled trades. You like turning wrenches? My first suggestion would be industrial mechanic/millwright.

Think about it. What is an automotive engineers designing job? Cram as large of an engine, with the most amount of accessories into the smallest space possible. What about say.....an industrial engineer designing systems for a mill or a power plant? Make the motor/gearbox/pump/valve/pipe system safe and in a location where it can be changed/replaced the easiest with the least amount of down time.

Go into a trade where the systems are DESIGNED to be taken apart by you.

Look into heavy diesel machinery. There is quite a good field there.

GUys are hilarious!! Knew I would get flamed on here haha. All the bullshit Pinja? You must not like working on cars then. I could turn a wrench trust me. Just dont see the harm in someone wanting to learn a trait hands on instead of learning it from a book. Who else would come to work for you for free?

Possibly.

I do recall having a small sewing machine at my house when I was younger.

I can sew on an industrial machine.

better than working your *** off on some soccer mom's astrovan, while being accused of being a "crooked" mechanic 24/7. paying for expensive *** tools everymonth.

snap-on tool box of a usabe size in a shop starts at $10,000 EMPTY

You want to learn a TRADE not a trait, there is a big difference. You should Google that first so know what it is you are trying to learn.

People who work for free in exchange for experience, that's called an INTERN.

You might also want to look that up. Apprentices are paid.

There's usually a lot of behind the scenes politics going on in shops you don't see. It's more then just turning a wrench or don't you think any jackass who can "turn a wrench" as you eloquently put it, would all be mechanics themselves?

im going to help you out OP. see if any community colleges offer any of these courses, then enroll in them.

Honda Pact
http://www.hondacareers.com/

Ford Asset
http://www.fordasset.com/tcep/New_ASSET_Home.asp

General Motors ASEP
https://www.gmasepbsep.com/index_redirect.asp

Toyota T-TEN
http://www.toyota.com/about/tten/whytten.html

go ahead and get a degree, also when you get into the field don't just start buying snap-on,matco **** just becuase everyone else goes on a buying spree.

just buy some stuff from the brands if possible, and if you only use it once or twice its ok to use harbor freight until they promote you to heavyline or something other than entry level tech.
