Default The Staircase - Netflix murder mystery

So I watched this with the wife. We’re both sick and we binged this over the weekend. Even though it was fairly one sided, I still think the husband offed his wife. Anyone else happen to see this mini doc? If you enjoyed Making a Murderer, I’d recommend giving this a try.

Cliffs: Defense says that the wife fell backwards in the house while walking up the steps. She was only on the 3rd step and she had 7 deep lacerations to the back of the head, and there was blood EVERYWHERE. Husband was a Vietnam Vet who lied about being injured in the war, hid his affair with other men, and the wife had found out. Some of the blood was wiped off the walls, and blood splatter found inside his shorts, and also HAD A BEST FRIEND IN THE 80’s die at the bottom on a staircase, among a ton of other sketchy findings. He was found guilty, served 8 years and was able to get out because the blood splatter analysis was an idiot. He was tried again and took a plea and is free to this day. He still claims his innocence, and his children (to me) seem brainwashed by this dude and believe that he didn’t do it.

Thoughts/opinions?

Oh my bad if we did already. I didn’t remember seeing a thread about it. If so, we can just talk about staircases in general

Gut feeling says he did it; however, how they went about the initial trial with all the character assassination was questionable at best.

My boss was good friends/co-worker with the wife, he said just from get togethers that the guy was a complete creep.

I haven't seen it, but he did it.

I've fallen down plenty of stairs and never split my head open and died.

The crooked blood splatter dude made me question things quite a bit. But compared to everything that came out during the trial, and actually seeing the crime scene, it’s hard to believe him.

There’s also an Owl Theory that is completely insane lol.

The first episode of the podcast "Criminal" was also about this case.

For those folks who don't want to watch a show and would rather listen to a 15-20 podcast about it.

Yeah it is pretty funny. This lady is inside her house walking up some stairs and suddenly a wild owl swoops in and kills her? That’d be a hoot.

Pretty sure she would've defend herself by swatting at the owl, causing some feathers or any remnant that you would usually find on owls on the floor.

“Microscopic feathers” were the only thing found on her hands, but I think it was said they were from a down pillow. That theory makes him look even more suspicious and makes the defense lawyers look desperate IMO.

I've been a listener since episode one. Some of the episodes are duds, but that happens with all things. I like that it isn't a standard true crime pod & the host has a voice/delivery that is just nice.

Serial-like or like dolling out the facts and just kind of reading off Wikipedia ?

Generally features interviews, side stories, etc. Definitely not just reading wikipedia for laughs like that my favorite murder show (to be fair I only listened to one episode, I didn't like it)

It isn't serial-like investigative journalism, it is very different.

If you want something like Serial but way better & a very different topic, check out Caliphate from the NYT. SUPER interesting podcast about ISIS.
