Second Amendment - Kids | Laws.com
Quote:
Shall not be infringed: The Second Amendment does not grant any right to bear arms. Furthermore, the rest of the Bill of Rights does not describe any right to do so. These rights are thought of as natural rights or God-given rights. In the Bill of Rights, the Second Amendment is just a reminder to the government that they should not try to stop people from having this right.

So what do you guys want? State's rights or the Fed controlling everything? The hypocrisy is stunning.

States have a leg up. Fed controlling everything is the definition of Facism.
Neither have anything to do with the 1st, 2nd and a couple other amendments.

I have never understood the 2nd amendment as a self-defense thing. It was a dual-edged sword allowing Americans to be armed as militia, but also to scare the living hell out of the federal government. Self-defense was taken as such a granted right that it feels like silk socks in work boots: incredibly silly as an argument for keeping what is so obviously expressed by the 2nd.

I'd rather have a negative ruling based on logic than a positive one based I the same swill allowing the kind of crap we have going on now.

It's a fine argument. Government exists to prevent revocation of rights, not to hover around and prevent every death scenario. Most of that is and should be up to you.

2A? Federal. A firearm law is not something should vary by state.

Valid. Reciprocity disagreements keep me from carrying although I conduct interstate commerce. For me it's an open question where federal dominion ends and the states pick up. A shortcoming of the constitution.

It just makes no sense to me why the location of someone's residence is a determining factor in whether they are fit/able to carry a gun.

State laws have their purpose, this isn't one of them.

I instantly want to agree with you. Which triggers an instinct to question why and on what basis. I don't know the law well enough to parse that out.

Philosophically, though, it's a good-and-evil argument, which when deadlocked should favor the freedom of the people.
