Default RR's Electric Vehicle discussion/fanboy thread

Instead of posting news stories in other threads and putting the vids in the Automotive Video Thread, I thought I would start to bring all of it here. Edit: might post the occasional green/renewable energy story as well, as they are somewhat related.

The part about Rimac starts around the 5:10 mark. The next part of this video where he reviews the Concept One and drag races his 918 against it should drop in about a week, or you can pay the 1.99 for the full episode if you want.

Edit: Here is the next part of the Rimac video, with the Porsche 918 drag race.

We can discuss both, but I will likely be mostly bumping the thread with fully electric stuff.

I think they use electric vehicles on Mars, so I will be watching this thread closely.

I'm pretty sure the Trump supporters don't believe in electricity, so they may attempt to derail your thread based on principles.

Its still a plug in vehicle with around 20 miles of all electric range though. I'm not opposed to hybrid discussion anyways.

I used to have a Prius. It saved me a lot of gas money until I moved closer. Then I sold it and it's unlikely I'd buy another. It was way too underpowered for me.

I live in a cold climate, having a strong heater is important.
so how do electric cars provide heat for the cabin. I imagine an electric core would be inefficient and would take a while to heat up a cabin that is zero degrees

Just do what some of us have and put down a deposit on the model 3. In a few years we may actually have a car.

I saw saw so many model x's while in SF and also saw two trucks delivering model x's on the highway this last week.

They work awesome up here in icy MN with how fast the heater works. My buddy really misses his Leaf since his lease ended. He loved the traction in the snow too.

Me too, but I think we are moving along pretty well without any huge jumps in energy density. The Teslas are up over 300 miles of range now and the Model 3 isn't far away, The 240 mile Chevy Bolt is hitting showrooms soon, and the next gen Nissan Leaf shouldn't be too far away(hopefully).

In my area a full charge would be about $10.20.

Now let's say you drive 250 and recharge, that's not bad at all.

For comparison, my Prius costs about $22 to fill up, usually about the 500 mile mark.

So, are full EV drivers twice as smug as hybrid drivers? :philosoraptor:
