Default Please help: facing eviction

Hi guys. So our November bill came in. And the electric portion was way higher than Octobers.
We went to the office to inquire and for 5 consecutive days we were told to come back tomorrow.
They told us that it was our space heater usage that caused it.
Thankfully I called PG&E, who came to verify the meter readings. And the PGE lady that came out also looked at our bill.
She said the meters are working fine. She said the usage is normal, as it only increased by 30 kwh. Meaning the increase does not reflect the usage increase. She calculated our tier cost and said our bill should be only 22.76 cents. Not $500.00

She said, even at PGE highest tier cost. We would have payed only $32.00.

Anyway,knowing all this.

Our landlord told us to show up today to resolve the issue. But rather than present us with a revised bill statement. He hands us an eviction notice for non payment.

Also, some of neighbors received similar inflated utility bills, and they all had theirs resolved. But they refuse to resolve ours. Some were nice enough to hand us copies of their revised bill statements.

I don't really know what to do. So any advise is welcome.

Did you pay rent? If so how are you being evicted? You need the bill corrected, but you may just have to suck it up and pay the higher bill until it's resolved. Landlord tenant laws vary from city to city and your terms should be spelled out in your lease.

What kind of place do you live in?

why are you not directly receiving a utility bill from the utility company?

If you pm me all the info, and you’re telling the truth, i’ll have your eviction process haulted tomorrow

Also would need contact info of landlord and your lease

nah, I’ll take care of it, no need to go the legal route, just a huge waste of time for something that can be resolved with a phone call

Here’s a $10 bet OP is full of **** and we’re not getting the whole story.

If not I’ll help him

you also didnt use 30 kwh unless you were not home and you unplugged your fridge and turned off hvac, 30kwh would cost about $6

Sometime meter companies do estimated readings for months at a time, and then when they finally read the meter its way higher then they were estimating and you get a huge bill.

The fact that the landlord gets the bill and charges the tenant probably means he’s in some shitty apartment building without seperated electric and what they do is split the bill between all the units.

If he is indeed getting fucked over by the landlord, and he does not compromise with me over the phone, we’re going full gdd detective mode on his *** and ruining his life until he folds.

We will complain to any governing bodies that would control a commercial property......municpal, county, state.
Spam enail to death
spam phone calls to death
negative reviews from hundreds of ip addresses for all their properties

If it’s legit an ******* landlord then it will be gdd christmas present to acmoc

Yeah if you’re a good tenant that’s always on time and not a problem tenant no way do you just get evicted over a bill mishap.

It's just me and my mom here, we both work all day. And I have solar panel bank that I run at night.
800 sq ft. and in CA so our heating costs are non existent. And our fridge and all that is suited to two people can eat in a month.

I'd just move. But as a California renter, you have rights and should be able to stay for a few weeks before the Sheriffs can forcibly remove you. Free rent while you look for a new place ftw.

It would be worth it. His landlord has been on his case on several occasions about trivial matters so if it were me, I'd make sure he remembers me.

I'd do a lot more than not pay rent.

At what point did xcat decide that anything posted by acmoc was actually grounded in truth?

Yeah so you screw up your credit and cant rent anymore apartments while your paychecks get deducted to pay the landlord back

thats not how to handle it, squatting is for people with nothing to lose

you handle it in court, if you wanna **** him over you do it other ways

This whole thing stinks. How does your light bill go from $17.XX to $500? Meanwhile the other tenants get a correction and you and moms don't? And what kind of landlord deals with your utilities, that's typically a tenant responsibility.

I can only go by his side of the story. It's all I have to work with so it is based on that. And based on that, on top of his electric bill jumping from $17 to $500 along with the threat of an eviction, I've stated what I would do at this point.

Truth? I'm only interested in perspective.
