Default OFFICIAL VINYL/TURNTABLE THREAD

Ok so I picked up a pair of SL - 1200MK2's about 2 months ago from a pawn shop paid 150 for each witch is the only reason I own them, they were cheap lol. I have always wanted a record player never thought I'd own some 1200's. Well the vinyl addiction kicked in hard. So here is my budget set up

When I first bought them.

Soon after had to clean the **** out of them dude kept them in his garage wtf?!?

Picked up a reicever for 15 bucks at a garage sale obamanotbad.jpeg

Met a really cool dude with some Cerwin Vegas for sale paid 150 for the pair great condition.

And shortly after I found out he had a **** ton of old school video games went back and bought the lot

So I bought the cheapest but most decent needle I could find, again budget hobby.

Sub woofer was a gift but it's p good

And now my humble set up, and as any hobby goes it's getting expensive and I'm starting not to care about budget

Been going to thrift stores and garage sales to look for vinyl alot easier than looking for Snes and Nes games now day's. And here is my latest pick up from Hot Topic

So GDD post up your vinyl and set up

Mods please merge

Also 150 is a steal. At five hundred you might as well get the pioneer plx 1000. Those are typical asking price for used technics nowadays

You live in a city with all kinds of stores, dude.

Go to Bucket 'o Blood Records in Avondale or, my favorite, Record Breakers on the south side.

4K is a slap in the face to its loyal fan's. I mean yes the quality of these things are insane but what DJ or just a casual vinyl listener is going to buy them? If I were a DJ I would go for some CDJ's for way less.

Might cause the 1200's to jump back to their usual asking price of ~300

4 x technics 1210 mkII
4 x Shure m44g
2 x Sony mdr 7506
Serato sl1
Rane ttm 56
Rane 61

All my vinyl is stored in huge tupperwares since I have everything in Serato

Rising Sun, if you are looking for sound quality/way it was meant to be heard, I would replace the stylus on your 44-7 with 44g stylus. The reason why is that the seven was made for scratch DJs back in the day. It really boosts highs and lows, the G is more of a natural sound. The 7s aren't a bad choice at all and don't sound bad by any means either. DJs have been using them for ~20 years, so you didn't go wrong.

I would also look into investing in a better mixer if I was concerned about sound quality, even before doing anything at all with the stylus. What you have will do the trick though. When/if you decide to, lmk and I'll help with some options.

Those tables though, $150 a piece for working in good condition 1200s is a steal. You ended up with a very decent setup for a hell of a price.

Any suggestions on a set up for the house? I currently have an older sony deck and receiver with klipsch speakers. Wanting to move onto something else though.

Epic stuff man Have always wanted to try Serato but kinda pricey for just a hobby. The mixer was a gift from my bro. But yes I have been looking into better mixers. Any suggestions something around 100-200 bucks? I'll look into the 44g thanks for the input man

For less than $200, I would look at the pioneer dim 300. It's an oldie, but the sound quality is great. You'll probably need a new cross fader on most of them, but it will still leave you under $200

Pioneer 2 Channel Preamp Mixer Model DJM 300 | eBay

Another option is the Vestax 05 pro II or III. The sound quality isn't much better than what you have, but it is a notch or two better for sure. They are built like tanks, and will last you 10+ years of you take care of them. The big ding against it is not having any mid eq. Tons of replacement parts out there though, so you will never have any problems finding stuff in case something ever goes wrong.

Vestax PMC 05 Pro 2 | eBay

If you decide to up your budget to $300-$400, there is a whole 'nother level of quality mixers to choose from.

Something you have to remember when worrying about money spent with quality *** DJ gear that isn't manufactured anymore, e.g. vestax 05 pro, techincs turntables, they are pretty much always going to sell at what you bought them for or more if you take care of them. If you think about getting your pair of techs for the steal of $300, you basically got paid $300-$400 to buy them. In the condition they are in they would easily go for $600+ for the pair. So, you've got a good bit of equity to play with already when it comes to this hobby, if you decide you hate it and want to cash out.

On Serato, the SL1 box can be found for ~$150, but the downfall on that is it's usb 1.0, so you would need a computer that can still accept 1.0. The SL2 boxes are ~$250 used all over on guitar center's used site. The gc site is a great place for deals on used mixers too.

Hit me up with anything you are considering mixer-wise, and I'll give you my 2 cents.

Only turntables I know about, inside and out, are techs. I'm not the guy for the hifi jawns. I will point you towards turntablelab.com though. They have something for everybody, have good buyers' guides etc.

Hey, nice thread with some nice setups.

Rota, that Scott turntable is a decent enough TT for playing some vinyl but it doesn't have much value...looks like it's in nice shape though

Vintage Marantz stuff can bring some cash, but I don't know and specifics on that cassette deck.

Quality tape stuff has a market though.

Don't have any pictures but my DJ setup consists of basically what was posted above:

2 technics 1200s
2 ch Audio Innovate mixer
Serato
lots and lots of vinyl

Listening setup is an older Rega table and Ortofon cartridge with a quality pre-amp running through the home stereo (7.2, JBL speaks, Polk subs, blah blah blah)

OP has a great setup for a first timer!

Cheers

Yeah the pioneer djm 300 is nice. Bought mine second hand off a buddie 11 years ago and has been strong ever since. You can't scratch on it tho, try to get the djm 400 with the selectable xfader curve if you want to scratch.
