I don't do loose carts man, just sealed and CIBs (Complete in Box). Though if you want to talk Game collecting, today is a pretty controversial day. Look what just popped up:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1990-NWC-Nin...ht_500wt_1287=

NWC Gold $27k. Actually pretty competitive price, these were $15k-$20k a couple of years ago. What's controversial, is that this is the only known graded copy, and several people are outraged that someone would grade it like that. The EPROM chips (circle windows) are sensitive to light, and it's possible this cart could be damaged by this stupid idea of a display.

However, on the bright side, you know it's 100% legit, which is important considering that only 26 are rumored to exist, with about 12 locked up in the hands of collectors, and little known about the other 14. There have been a few fakes that people have tried to pass off as legit, so the authentication is actually pretty important on this one.

The VGA 85 grade though... not so much.

Agreed...I'm sure it's displayed in that fashion to show that it is a legit cartridge. Even if it does get damaged, who cares? That cartridge was never going to be played again anyway.

You'd be surprised. At least a couple of the NWC owners fire theirs up from time to time. Either for friends, to play, or just to show off at a game trade show. People want to see stuff like that.

I have a NES with 20 games and a SNES with 5 games, can I play?

I would love to have a collection, but damn it's getting expensive.

Yeah, collecting is more like a part-time job than a hobby these days. It is much easier to do some reselling to collect for free, then to be only a buyer and chase the prices as they keep going up. Or at least do trades, so it's easier on the wallet.

I'm still shooting to expand my Nintendo collections when I have a "hobby room" in the future, and I'm OK with loose carts as long as they work properly.

I'd also love to have an arcade cabinet that I can run MAME on.

Jesus, I thought some of the NES Black Box sales were ridiculous but...

Sega Genesis Pit Fighter VGA 90 $20,000?!?!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sega-Genesis...item2ebd6da46c

Nintendo DS Castlevania Portrait of Ruin Collector Bundle $7,000?!?!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-DS-...item2ebd6d9d44

Yikes.

$20k? Holy crap! Is that the record for a Genesis game? I wonder if it's that guy who was buying the high priced black box NES games...

wiZCo...I saw on your FB that you checked off which of Top 100 Classic Video Games of All Time you have played...can you post the full list here? I don't feel like installing the app

Well that listing was pulled, so you have no idea about a selling price or anything. Maybe someone for local pickup.

As far as the Genesis game for $20k, it's got to be that same guy, and no way it can be legit. Apparently that buyer clicks BINs and then negotiates down a price, no telling how much. But either way, that's like a $150 game, so if he's selling anywhere close to $20,000, you can imagine the return.

Bauley, that list is a little bogus, maybe only 60% of the games on there would be considered classics in my mind.

I tried copy-pasting but the list format is awkward.

4 VGA games over $10k sold in the last two weeks...

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_skip..._dmd=1&_ipg=50

Looks like the Zelda GameCube Promotional Disc is going to be a future collectors item...

Yeah that Zelda Gamecube Promotional Disc is already a collectible. I have a VGA 90 copy of it as well, and assume it to be worth $400-$500. I'd put an VGA 85 at $250-$300, so the auction should go a good bit higher than $306.

There's a lot of demand out there for almost every system imaginable. The rarest Gamecube game is actually a Zelda / Metroid double pack, and the last sealed copy went for $1600.

Edit:
Also, Gamecube prices are going to explode up in the next couple of years. Gamestop just announced they are no longer carrying Gamecube games as of April 2012, this month. Once a platform is retired from all major chains, online prices slowly start creeping upward.

Also, for you casual or non-collectors, check out:

www.gamesniped.com

They highlight some of the more interesting video game / merchandise auctions every couple of days or so. There's plenty of nice stuff they miss, but they also catch many items I never even knew existed.

That Zelda Gamecube disc goes for about $39.99 at GameStop. Pre-owned of course.

I have that disc brand new, never opened. It came bundled with a GameCube I bought on Black Friday 2003, which also has never been opened. Now I'm curious how much it's worth.

Send it to VGA to get it graded and sell it for tons of money.

None of my video games are sealed...I bought them so that they could be played

Someone over on NA had a horrible miss yesterday, I feel his pain Had agreed to make a craigslist purchase for about 30 NES games at $80. Leaves seller his number, his wife accidentally responds to the other "WTB Video Games" ad on the local craiglist, so the other guy gets the deal.

The big deal of the situation? There was a Stadium Events in there, about a $2,500-$3,000 cart in nice shape.

Tough read here:

http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/mes...threadid=69047

Pretty swift kick in the gut to miss out on almost $3,000 in profit just by someone clicking the wrong web link.

So the idiot guy decided he'd put off picking up a 3000 dollar profit and then lost out? I don't really feel bad for him. When you find a deal like that you should swoop in and pick it up ASAP.

Also, the guy told the dude selling that he would give him 80 if there were no rare games. Funny, he made it sound like he was still going to give the guy 80 even though he had the rarest game available. Dude is a liar and deserves what he got.
