Default Official "cars I want to build" thread.

First off let's be clear, purchasing a late model car and dropping it on wheels with a wrap is not "building a car."

What cars do you plan on/dream of building? I decided it's time I stop **** posting sub $2000 rolling chassis in the window shopper thread.

I have the fun car (rustang) that starts every time but I would like a project. I'm pretty sure I'm set on a karmann ghia with subaru swap. Seems to be just about the right caliber of project for me. There are kits for the swaps, ghias have more room than the other air cooled vw's, and the low cost factor is a plus. Ive also had a soft spot for karmann ghias since I was a kid and it will nice nice to have a light little project that I can push around solo and fit in my micro garage with room to spare. Would be nothing to get a wrecked subaru with everything needed for cheap aside from kit, and in general Classic vw parts are relatively cheap. After much research and other contenders such as a Datsun roadster, a lsx jag, etc, this seems like the way I'm going to go. Visually, intend to go a route on par with outlaw Porsche builds, but I'm too poor for a 356/speedster.

Some motivation... Mmmm.

I've been wanting to some kind of small car with a Hayabusa swap. Perhaps an imported Kei car.

Definitely tops my list as well, just want to do it right IMO by not having it chain driven...

Dude, you can totally build one for around 10K, I've checked it out.

Subaru GC Carbon Fiber Wide Body Kit (1992-2001) | Aerosim Research

JDM STI motor is cheap.

Paint, suspension, rims, done.

Maybe you're spending more like 12K after it's all said and done, but still, that's a ******* steal for a replica 22B.

I feel bad for all you guys in Cali, or any large city. Can't do **** to your cars, too many laws. Move out to the country side or something, where swaps are legal and there aren't emissions tests. Keep dreaming plebs

I'm pretty damn happy with my STI at the moment. Deathly scared to do more than bolt ons and a tune or it'll explode. If I want 400+ hp, I'd be down for a LSx in something fun like a 240SX or an FD3S. Always had a soft spot for those cars since they were always some of the coolest cars when I was growing up and flipping through the mags. I remember being on an Rx-7 list-serv (anyone remember those) and one of the first guys to do a V8 swap documented the entire thing, pretty cool.

But, yes, live in the Bay Area so a house with a 3 car garage means $800k+, so that's not happening anytime soon. I guess in theory I could sell our place for $80k more than we bought it for and use the equity to do that, but moving/buying/selling is exhausting so not until the kids are old enough to entertain themselves.

MG Midget - that runs
Toyota 2000GT - SR20DET
FD RX-7 - BMW N55

I say build because I'll never be able to afford a real one, so maybe a kit car like the guy at work would be a nice alternative for us poors.

Half tempted to go see if I can drive this home today...

If only it was a low window example...

1970 Convertible Datsun Roadster - $3250 (scotts valley)

1970 Datsun 311

VIN: SPL31129989
condition: good
cylinders: 4 cylinders
drive: rwd
fuel: gas
paint color: red
size: compact
title status: clean
transmission: manual
type: convertible

Selling my 1970 Convertible Datsun Roadster. Runs well but could use some carb adjustment and tuning. Good tires. New gear reduction starter, new brake master cylinder, new alternator, battery and fan blade. Has some rust as seen in the photos. Underneath appears very solid. Paint is at least 15 years old and is in rough shape. Has a hard top and boot cover but no convertible top or frame. Currently on non-op status. No past due DMV fees. Registration due in July ($83).
