Icon5 Marijuana Reform Question

Yesterday in a party meeting I had an unexpected conflict with a NORML leader when I tried to stand my ground by saying we should not be focusing on legalization of marijuana as a platform.

I said it was an issue that could lose votes if we were not careful.

Medical use, yes. Decriminalization, yes. But total legalization as a major part of the platform...no.

I think it is one of those issues that could make it look like we are running like lemmings to that cliffís edge on the Left.

Am I off base?

Is the legalization of marijuana a big issue that should be a part of the platform?

Or not so much?

It's HUGE. The amount of people partaking in marijuana these days is astounding. It is very much a big issue for a lot of folks.
You push for legalization, and you'd have my attn. And I don't normally listen to political stances.

Marijuana should be treated exactly like alcohol. Change my mind.

I have an opinion on it, but it's not an important enough issue to affect my decision to vote for someone running for political office

I dunno about MAJOR piece of your platform, but definitely should be in the top 20 things.

You sure can do a lot of good things with the extra tax revenue youd get from taxing MJ. Right now that money just goes into joe dealers pockets.

This is tough. It can effect people around you because it's smoke. Alcohol stays right where it is. If I'm walking down the street, I don't want someone to come up next to me smoking a J.

Based on no scientific data, I think it should be legal eventually, but would be on board with a slower approach that goes through decriminalization first.

Uruguay and Canada are the only sovereign states that have fully legalized the consumption and sale of recreational cannabis nationwide.

Can you get high standing next to someone smoking a blunt?

Lets think about the actual PPM of smoke you are subjected because you smell someones blunt that you’re walking near. What’s it like 1/1000th the dose of the smoker in one puff? Maybe 1/5000th?

Lets get real here, it’s an emotional dislike, not a logical one

You're not getting high either. Not in the open air. And it wouldn't be nearly enough to fail you on a drug test either. Not that it would matter if it was legal.

So it does effect you is what you're saying. Sure outside it's less, but what if it were inside? You can't get around the fact that it still effects me physically. Some people are sensitive to it aren't they?

No point in forcing it, the slow push we have now will make its way to legalizing it.

The point I'm making is that it effects others around you, whether small or large.. What if I have my 2 month old baby with me? Daz do you smoke up while you're reading a book to your kid?

It's illegal to smoke indoors anyways.

Not like you go to a bar and people are smoking cigs everywhere.....they wouldn't be smoking joints either.

1/1000th dose of one puff will not effect you at all, even if you were the most sensitive person on earth.

Why are you picturing a bunch of people hotboxing you indoors, you know damn well thatís not realistic concern.

umm is that a problem now with cigs?

My daughter is 2, and I have never once had an issue with cig smokers. And MJ will be far more regulated than cigs, which are actually legal to smoke outside in public

Drinking can effect others around you too. I've seen tons and tons of people acting out, driving intoxicated, etc.
Who is going to smoke weed around your 2 month old baby? Are you taking it inside a weed bar? Or around family members that blaze? I'm confused. Nobody I know would fire up a J around my kids.

We're probably quibbling.

Whatever local and state regulations prohibit smoking indoors will apply to all smoking, even if it's tobacco vaping or marijuana.

Because it has happened to me and affected me negatively hahaha I'm defending it because the second it's decriminalized people see it differently, they start to think it's OK everywhere and it makes me angry.
