Default Intelligence & Religious Faith: Is there a connection/relation?

Simple but controversial...

Do you feel that there is a connection or relation between someones level of intelligence and their religious beliefs?

note: I'm not trying to say that you're dumb if you do/don't believe in God.

The most intelligent person can see things on both sides of the fence.

And the most ignorant follow their faith blindly, by refusing to learn about other possibilites. Specifically religious fanatics, and people who are polar opposite.

Why not? Anything can be considered religious. If you believe in something but can accept other peoples views, wouldn't that make you more intelligent than someone who does not care either way?

The more educated a person is, the less likely they are religious. That's a statistical fact.

BAM!

National data indicate a negative relationship: the most educated are the least religious.

Absolutely not; I've met incredibly intelligent people from both sides, and I've also met fanatical idiots from both sides.

That's because most educated people believe that piece of paper makes them intelligent.

Education != Intelligence

Educated in what sense? They went to college to learn how to do a job(engineer, doctor, lawyer), or they went to college for a traditional "education"(philosophy, english, etc). Theres a big difference.

To answer the OPs question, I don't think so. I know people with phd's, and I know people without highschool diplomas. Their views seem random. The biggest correlation I've seen is people brought up in a hardcore cathloic house seem to turn away from religion.

I've also noticed a lot of people I know seem to get out of religion from age 18-30. Then around age 30 they reexamine their beliefs.

100% true. From what I've seen education has almost no influence on intelligence.

Anyways, people's brains are set up to believe in a higher power. It's just part of human nature. Kind of like they're set up to get angry, or to get sad when certain things happen.

Intelligent or not, it's kind of hard to ask somebody not to get angry. Or to not believe in God.

And some studies show that some people are born believers and some are not. Not everyone is born with "faith".
