status quo is key to the entire region. China is just trying to see where the new line is.

North Korea rocket-engine test shows 'meaningful' progress: South Korea | Reuters

North Korea tests new rocket engine, claims some sort of leap forward.

If I lived in Honolulu, I'd start thinking about moving to the mainland.

Morale among the military is one of those "X" factors. Even on a US submarine, they have pizza night once a week.

NK military doesn't have pizza night

How recent is this? Thought Duterte kicked out the last of the Americans in the Philippines.

With Tillerson managing to break the ice with Xi Jing Ping, you know China will try to leverage their assistance as far as dealing with NK into getting more traction with whatever it is they`re doing in their nine-dashed line territories.

if they had a pizza night, with some good beer, they'd probably either defect or plot a coup

Not sure how recent that map is.

I don't think Jinping cares much about NK or Tillerson.

China is going to continue whatever it is they do

Hawaii has had advanced missile defense systems for a while, now.

And...just because they've made a leap forward with the rocket booster doesn't necessarily mean they could hit the broad side of a barn.

But...I agree it's just about time to do something, one way or another. We can't do nothing for much longer and get away with it.

With the debt ceiling reached, and Congress busy fighting over fake news, what better time to start a new 13 year war that will cost a couple trillion dollars?

I'm more worried about NK trying to launch a satellite while also trying to miniaturize nukes. IMO the only way they launch an offensive against the US mainland is by detonating a nuke from a satellite over Chicago and EMP our entire country and then strike when we are relatively defenseless. They would still be eviscerated by sub-launched nukes but that would be the only way they would accomplish anything afaik.

At least we have Homefront: Revolution to practice for this possibility

Imagine if China is in bed with NK. If we can hack and sabotage their ICBMs, I would assume others have that capability as well. China could detonate a satellite nuke over the US, we unload sub nukes on NK, and China and/or Russia attacks mainland US

KS, get in here and tell us how feasible this stuff is, and GK tell us how invincible and infallible the USG is

That doesnt seem to be a likely scenario.

Not likely from a "we better not try, because we would be wiped off the face of the earth so fast we wouldn't feel feel a thing" perspective, or "it's not a very good chance to actually succeed, because physics" ?

Because physics

The emp effect isnt that strong. It won't take out huge chunks of the USA's power.

Ok. Well then I'm personally not very afraid of NK then, but .gov never let the absence of factual threats get in the way of a good decade long empire building/humanity-destroying romp.
