Default India/Pakistan...

So uh two fighter jets just got shot down near the border. Has there ever been a situation like this between two nuclear nations?

This is a legit crisis.

I'm resisting the temptation to make fun of OP, although he's doubtless scheming a way to make this about American neoliberalism.

I think this is more about the two nations sabre rattling more than anything. Border conflicts have been a favorite method for India and Pakistan to ruffle each others feathers.

I mean... sabre rattling probably stops short at cratering two aircraft from the other side, but that being said, from what I've read, the jets were definitely in Pakistan airspace... I'm no expert on the matter though.

This is different bro.

Thankfully the Indian pilot has been treated well by PAK.

Are you just not aware of Modi and his agenda?

How did you feel about the Kargil War?

Modi is a ******* idiot on the level of DJT but like I said these border conflicts have been going on for decades. Something happens in India, the Indian government claims "terrorists from Pakistan," both countries lob a few bombs at one another and move troops to the border, rinse, wash, repeat.

Commercial flights being diverted around Pakistan. Not a good sign.

I was just about to be a sophomore in highschool when that went down, so my recollection is limited, but I for some reason recall it being the catalyst for their arms race.

Two month war with enemy jets being shot down and POWs being taken. The conflict faded away with India declaring an area clear from "terrorism." Both nations have much to lose by escalating things too far so I don't see this being any different. I'll give it a few more weeks before it dies out, I hope I'm right.

I wouldn't read too far into that, I imagine they are erring to the side of caution, not flying commercial traffic over a country which has very recently proven that is is looking for aerial targets and obviously capable of engaging them. No need to have a repeat of IA655 or MH17

I have all the faith in the world that our commander and chief will send out a tweet to reassure the rest of the world. That said, we are under a national emergency so we have enough to deal with right now.
