Default How long do tire plugs supposedly last?

Turns out I had a huge f'in screw in my tire. Since I'm too cheap to replace the $450 pair I just got the thing plugged for $10. How long are those plugs supposed to last? Has anyone ever had one fail?

I'd go ask the guys in the tech forum or Evil Teken, he knows everything. But I had one in my old car for a while and it was fine until I replaced the tires.

If it was done right the plug should last the life of the tire.

By the way I work at a tire shop.

I dont think I would trust a plug on tires that Id be running on the track at all.

Street tires: probably till they die.

They're street tires... agressive street tires... but what's on the car none the less.

I got a nail in a brand new (less than 100 miles) Goodyear F1 17" tyre about 2 years ago, and the guy at the shop plugged it and stuck it on the rear of the car, it lasted the life of the tyre...about 12K miles, never leaked or gave bother!

I've plugged more than I can count and every one lasted the life of the tire. I plugged one on my wife's car, the hole was too small to get the plug in so I got out the drill and reamed it out. She thought I was nuts, but that's how you do it.

Though I do not recommend it I have plugged the lower sidewall and have had that last the life of the tire also.

I carry plugs, rubber cement and the installer tool in every car. I don't even take the tire/wheel off any more, just plug it right on the car.

Regards,
BigMoose
