Default HOA says I can't wash my car

Yes, HOAs are terrible most of the time, but before everyone goes crazy...

After some Googling, turns out that in almost every jurisdiction in the USA, you are not supposed to wash your car where the water runoff goes into a storm drain. I didn't know this. Even safe water soluble soaps available today apparently can upset the environment (algae blooms, oxygen content in rivers/lakes, etc). This is new to me and quite upsetting since in my area (in most areas usually), street water will drain into a storm drain.

Only when the water is able to be directed/drained into your own lawn, or into some type of sewer system that eventually routes to a treatment facility, can you wash your car. Apparently it is something that has always existed, but never really enforced.

I do have a "cleanout" plug in my garage floor. I wonder if I can remove that and install a drain and somehow wash the car in my garage. Or would that just cause the area to smell terrible? My buddy was telling me about rinse-less car wash methods, but I don't know much about them. I have never taken any of my vehicles to a car wash, and I'm not keen on taking it to a self-wash. In fact, I don't even think there are any within 10 miles of me. How would I wash my motorcycle?

In any case, this was a general note to all residents in my neighborhood. Sounds like I'm not even supposed to even just only water. Lame.

Did the HOA send you specifically a letter about it or just hand out flyers to everyone? What happens if you violate it?

I'm more irritated by the fact that there are no margins in the text box and they literally have the text run right up to the border. Akash Vaidya has dropped the ball here.

No, I didn't get a specific letter. A ton of people wash their cars outside. Usually in cases like this, someone must have received a warning so they will post it in this general letter that goes out monthly with your HOA bill.

I don't wash my car often anymore. Maybe once a month, or longer.

My friend told me about ONR and I haven't had a chance to Google it yet. Don't know anything about it.

Maybe you can rig up some of the rubber garden edging at the bottom of your driveway and funnel the water into your lawn?

What lawn? I don't even get a driveway here unless I spend twice as much. Lols.

Here's where I wash my car. This street is sloped where the water runoff goes across to the other side (top red arrow) toward a storm drain.

Bottom arrows are what I assume are cleanouts for the house's sewer line. Probably not meant to be open with a drain I'm guessing due to exhaust gases.

After I compounded and polished my car more than a year ago, I went through an entire bottle of ONR and I barely have swirls. And this is usually with only half a bucket of water. When I’m done, I just pour that **** down the drain and the driveway is pretty much dry. It works. There’s a video of a guy who put a detailed black hood, set it out out for a couple of months and did ONR on a dusty *** hood and no swirls.

obviously it’s not a good as foaming and all that but if done carefully, it’s fine. And Shamoo, you could do it inside your garage.

I never even thought about this before. I always dump my soap bucket into the storm drain when I'm done. The good part is, I only wash my car once a year.

We also don't have separate storm/sanitary sewers here, which probably makes a big difference.

At what cost though? Ceramic coating my car is about $6K. Then I have to pay for a car wash.

What in the ever loving ****? My buddy who details for a living does it for $600 or so. And it's top notch. That was MY price from him, but I don't think he charges much more than that for regular customers.
