Default Have you ever spoken highly of someone but none of it was true?

I was at a wedding, and one of the groomsman gave a speech and later in the evening told us that about 90% of his speech was made up and that the bride and groom knew but didnt care.

He also said the groom is actually a jackass in reality.

I've certainly embellished a bit... usually when asked to be a reference.

I don't really associate with people I have to lie about to bolster the veneer of them being a shitty person.

No.

I've allowed people to be hired knowing that I could handle them, and also knowing that other people would hate them.

Just needed to get the job done.

I have, and do with some unfortunate regularity. I deal with some pretty high caliber individuals from an investor standpoint. There are times during introductions either one on one, or during events, where I catch myself embellishing some of the better deeds of the individual, while obviously making no mention of the numerous to countless misdeeds. These people have tremendous egos, and use charity to pay social penance, but the money is still green, and it provides a net positive, so I justify it pretty easily.

Wedding speeches are tough, since they have to be sanitized. Particularly if the couple met at college, all the drunken escapades become nights at the library.

I do it all the time, especially for co-workers I hate. It helps out tremendously when you have some ******* you can't stand, then talk them up as being able to do way more than they really can and have them assigned duties you know they'll fail at.

This level of trolling requires double effort as you need to not only convince everyone around you, but also the person you hate that they're capable of whatever it is you say they are.
