Default Fast POS DA, or a Slow Nice EG hatch

So I have the opportunity to buy a 1992 Si hatch, or a 1990 RS Integra.

Hatch: black, some rust, GC Coils, AGX shocks, b16a swap, bolt ons, alarm, Rota Slips, etc. Asking $4,700

Integra: stock, white, some rust, b18a, turbocharged. $2000

I know both the owners. The Integra ran a 13.8 at 6,000ft ASL at 15lbs. The piston ring is gone though, so before I buy it it gets a longblock swap and boost at 7psi. The Civic hatch dunno, but others run mid 16's.

My turbo'd Prelude got hit, so this is what the insurance check will buy. I am hoping to get $4,000 from the insurance.

Yes, the hatch has a lot more done... but it's over twice as much in cost. I am 17 years old, and am limited on fund options here. While getting the hatch and boosting it would be ideal, that'd take time and money (it needs a rebuild due to 180 180 158 180).

So, decisions... do I buy the ugly fast car, or the slow nice-looking car?

I'd go with the hatch, already has a swap. Good start, already has a decent suspension set up. Not a ton of mods so you know it most likely wasnt abused. On the other hand the Integra would definately be faster, but I'd never buy a car that was already turbocharged. Never know how much its been beat on. Know what I mean? A plus for the hatch is that it doesnt seem like it needs much on the outside, appearance wise. Good luck with whatever you go with though.

EDIT: I missed the part about the hatch needing a rebuild. But I think I'd still go with the hatch.

Interesting points guys, thanks for posting.

Some more information:

I think that with either of the cars, I'd be happy in the end. It's really just the initial part: do I want to spend more on the car that has more done, or do I want to spend less on the car that has less done.

If I get the hatch, a minor rebuild will be in place to fix that number 3 cylinder there, and then boost it relatively soon.

If I get the Integra, bodyshop, suspension/brakes, and other appearence goodies.

I am gonna squeeze for the insurance company to let me keep the car so I can part it out. If so, I'll have a turbo, BOV, and injectors for sure. I can't reuse the mani/dp because it was custom made for the car. Intercooler and charge piping is toast.

That means I'll need a manifold, IC, and IC piping... custom make the downpipe, oil line kit, and by on my way.

I haven't tried to low-ball, but I think that the seller would be willing to meet with me halfway between 4000 and 4700 just out of the goodness of his heart. He's a nice guy.

Since when did a b16 swapped hatch run mid 16's?

Regardless I would go with the hatch.

If this is a DD, get the hatch. It will be much more comfortable in the end....

The hatch looks way better.

Keep in mind - both of those cars probably have been raped - i'd guess the integra more than the Civic

And the hatch has AC

Is that Stu's integra?

Either way I would go with the hatch, it is nicer but also since it isn't all "fixed up" it gives you a chance to do things that you want to do (all motor, or fi etc) plus the hatch looks a lot better.

For what you get $$$$ wise, the DA is my choice. Buy it off your bro and make him wish he never sold it! I wouldn't care to drive around in an EG that is pretty much completed, especially by someone I knew. Price is kinda steep too!

The hatch because it's got A/C! , and because you don't have to work on it. You know you don't feel like putting an engine in!

No amount of money could make a DA nice looking.. all of them are ugly as hell. My brother owns one, I know.
