If Toyota continued to make FJ40 Land Cruisers, it would still sell like hot cakes.

Sort highest price to low, take screenshot of the most expensive, victory. Market research is complete.

Those are dealers upcharging the low allocation trim or craploads of dealer-equipped accessories. You can get well-equipped TRD Off Roadís and Sportís for 35-37k all day long.

FWIW, I got my TRD Pro for $43k. But yes, people have paid $50 for them but this is an anomaly in the greater Tacoma market.

TFW drum brakes are "ancient" but you can buy a GM product for $80K with a pushrod motor in it...

But the leaf springs on the Corvette are transversely mounted. That's new. I think GM started that in 1984. Wait, that's old.

There was probably no Corvette in '83 because the engineers were trying to figure this out and it took them longer than expected.

IIRC, that transverse leaf spring was fiberglass, not steel. High tech stuff back then..

corvette doesn't use leaf springs anymore

and you don't pay toyota drum brake prices for GM pushrods

thats the entire point.

you can get a crewcab Coyote f150 with heated memory seats and 10 gears for what you'd pay to get drums on a tacoma

Glad to know dealers are willing to bend ~$4K.

The last time I was srs about a Tacoma (2017), all the dealer was able to give me was $450 off MSRP. Take that or GTFO. I think I shop around 6 or so dealerships.

My dad bought a Chevy Colorado last year (custom ordered actually) instead of getting another Taco, and one reason was because they STILL use drum brakes on the rear. Seriously, Toyota needs to get off their asses and put modern damn brakes on the thing. The 2020 one also says "Intermittent wipers now standard" like WTF? Cars have had intermittent wipers for DECADES! My 89 Toyota Camry had intermittent wipers! Every other truck on the market has 4-wheel disc now. Every other truck Toyota sells has 4-wheel disc, including the 4Runner, Tundra and Land Cruiser. I don't buy that whole "drums are better in sand and off-road" crap. That's pure BS. If they were better then other trucks would still have them, but they don't.

I replaced drum brakes on my wife's old Corolla a couple years ago. That was the one and only time I'll ever work on drum brakes. They are a serious PITA to deal with.

My Fit, other Fit, Fiesta and Jetta had rear drums.

My S2000, Civic, Integra, Miata had rear disks.

They're both exactly fine.

Until you get to do a brake job on one. Plus all those cars with drums are cheap, low end cars probably 10 years old or more. A brand new nearly $50,000 vehicle should never have drum brakes.

Did my wife's old car's drums at ~270K miles and I'm fairly certain they had been done at least once, maybe twice before I got in there. We keep cars for the long haul.
