Do you write in a diary or record audio files for yourself?

For therapeutic or sentimental reasons?

I'm trying to get into the habit of writing in a journal. I've noticed in the last year or two that my writing ability has declined, both in terms of penmanship and just the quality of the writing itself. I want to reverse this or slow it down.

Either reading or writing every day is what I'm aspiring to. Seems a simple goal, just about making it routine.

lol, I had the same thought but the truth is, it's good way to evaluate yourself. To see how you have changed or haven't. It helps you improve as a person and it's also good stress reliever.

I had to do one last year for human relations class. I liked it, but I haven't written anything sense then.

Proper record keeping has been crucial for my success. I've been keeping notes since 2004.

I use it to track productivity and to know how much materials and such I need. It helps me keep track of what my guys are doing.

For example, I sent one of my younger guys to paint trim, walls, and ceilings in a rental. I knew exactly how much square footage and linear footage he had to paint. When he gave me his time this morning, I now know how fast he can do that amount. I'll compare that to my other guys and it lets me know who is best for each job.

Another: I recently did my first standing seam metal roof. I kept notes on how many fasteners each piece required, how long it takes to prep each piece, how many cutting wheels I need, etc. I then break those numbers down so I know what materials and time I need for each square.

Keeping notes like that was the best advice I've been given by old timers.

I record my kids talking some times.

I remember when my oldest was about 2.5 I asked him why he cried so much when I had to take him to daycare. He said, "Daddy doesn't want to play with me anymore so you leave me there" ... Ouch

I use the "notes" app on my phone sometimes when I feel like I need to. Writing for me is therapeutic.

dude, how did you correspond jobsite notes with keeping a diary

do your notes include your feelings or something?

rockcityís notes

-Need 4Ē pvc street elbow
-8 sq roof used 3/4 box of nails
-there is an overcast today and Iím not quite feeling myself.
-floor sanding 1k sqft poplar used 3x drum belts and 6 discs for edger
-am I a nice guy? Seriously I wonder how people view me from their perspective. I hope so, I donít want people to hate me. What actually makes people perceive other people as being nice?

I don't keep a diary but I do use Wunderlist and keep track of various things in my life that way. Like car builds, shopping lists, movies I liked/want watch, stuff like that.

Na it includes those notes and then any goals or ideas I may have had that day. So it's not a diary even though my doctor says I should keep a "pain journal" to help me fix my neck and shoulder.

For neck and shoulder pain, stop lifting/carrying heavy stuff and swinging hammers. Sorry man, that's the real cause. Hard work causes pain!
Most of the stuff I do, I want to forget about right away. Plus, I don't want evidence lying around.

I keep detailed paper calendars in case I ever get accused of sexual assault and need to prove my innocence

My writing is awful. I've been meaning to start a blog for 10 years now but haven't gotten around to it, both to improve my writing skills and to have some sort of written record of my life. Probably never will unless I magically get some more time in the day.

I have explained to my 4 year old that Mommy and Daddy have to make money to afford the house we live in, and we can't take the kids to work, so we take them to school.

"Do you want to sleep in the car instead of your bed?"

"No"

"Then you're going to school"

I keep a list (on my phone) of which Sushi places I've been to with my wife, which rolls we got and whether we liked them or not....

this is a good idea, because I can never remember the ones we've had with all the custom ones at various places. I usually just opt for the sashimi so I don't have to look at the menu.

Indeed. I love an anecdote for an argument, but when it comes to my money, I need that empirical data.
