I do! I don't know if it's wrong to do or not, but I do it.

I recently found a resume I liked a lot, was about to call the girl for an interview, and creeped her facebook. 4/5 of her most recent posts were basically "**** people" and "the hardest thing I have to do all day is pretend like I give a **** about these people's problems" referring to work. It def cost her the interview.

If you are irresponsible to leave your profile public and post crap like that, I wouldn't want you working near me either.
Sounds like you saved yourself some trouble Austin.

Anything? Like you disapprove of public posts?

Or like if they post anything stupid or moronic that you disapprove of?

Also, what's up man? Long time no talk. I know I'm rarely on these days but I almost never see you on anymore.

I am also super rarely around. Good seeing you.

Just since we are tech folks new hires should know to lock down their information.

Ah that makes some sense. I guess I can understand that.

I mostly just look for anti work posts, excessive irresponsibility that may indicate they would call out from work a lot, etc. Of course with more and more people locking down facebook, it's getting harder.

Whenever the first post is from years ago, do you scroll from bottom to top to find the person that revived the topic, or from top to bottom?

edit: I have **** eyes. I thought the post date was 2016

Not sure if your just taking the **** out of Austin.

Here in the states it's fairly common for an employer to look up social media using an applicants name, email, or whatever information may have been given on an application(sports fan/league/hobbies/etc). Find their Myspace/Facebook page and if the page is public you can find out quite a bit, who they like, friends, who they follow and on and on. If a quick look shows them getting twisted every weekend, do you want to hire someone who is guaranteed to show up on Monday still in the horrors? Leaving their page 'public' shows a lack of sense for personnel security. How would they treat company interests. And spending five minutes on the computer saves yourself time on an interview of a no-hire.

There are also employers who will run a credit check on a potential employee, the claim is if a person is not financially responsible themselves they are probably not going to be responsible at work or a potential problem, be it attitude, theft, aptitude, drink, how they treat company property. Do you want the drunk with the crazy ex-spouse driving a company vehicle?

On one hand it seems a bit underhanded digging into someones personnel life. 'Who cares what someone does off the clock?'
On the other, how someone conducts themselves after hours may be an indication of how they will conduct themselves at work. There's a reason they are on the dole.

Hell yeah. Good prescreening mang.

I recommend "How to hire A players" book for recruiters and employers. One of my favorite books

My company does credit checks, or at least makes you sign papers agreeing to it. We JUST had an instance in which a store had some things come up missing. We suspected a specific employee who is always having money trouble and never seems be able to catch up on his bills. Turned out, another employee had over heard the first employee tell his crack dealer (we strongly suspect) that he was going to give him free phones to catch up on his owed money. Not saying that you can always tell someone's decisions, but I understand it.

Fiscal responsibility may represent someone who has it together and makes good decisions. Extremely poor credit or I should say someone with excessive debts indicates poor decision making. Very few people are a grade A employee then turn out to be a piece of **** at home.

I applied at a Bridal company recently for a part time job. I asked the employee that told me to apply why I wasn't hired and she said my lack of social media presence was the largest contributing factor. My gender was apparently the other reason. This girl works there part time and works in marketing as her regular job and told me that every company she's ever applied for has looked extensively into her social media profiles and some even requested her passwords. So yeah, what you did is apparently normal.

Well here in Europe that's a differant story.....

https://www.irishtimes.com/business/...ches-1.3153372

Employers who check a job candidate’s Facebook or Twitter profile before deciding whether to hire them may be in breach of European law, top regulators have said, as the EU tightens its data protection policies.

According to guidelines published by EU data protection agencies, employers will from now on require a “legal ground” before checking the social media profiles of potential employees. The regulators add that data collected from a search must be necessary and “relevant to the performance of the job”.

An estimated 60 per cent of employers use social networking sites to screen potential candidates before making decisions, according to a survey of more than 2,000 employers conducted by CareerBuilder, an online recruitment company.

The regulators, who together form a group on data protection known as the Article 29 working party, do not themselves make EU law.

But since they police the law’s implementation in the 28 member states - and seek a common interpretation with which to do so - their role is highly influential.

“The opinion of the working party is non-binding but very persuasive due to who they are,” said Phil Lee, a data protection specialist at Fieldfisher, the law firm.

“They will influence how the national data protection authorities read the rules. In this case, they have said there must be a really good reason, relevant to the role concerned, for an employer to check someone’s social media profiles.”

The guidelines say that while employers may view such inspections as justified, “[THEY] should not assume that merely because an individual’s social media profile is publicly available they are then allowed to process those data for their own purposes.”

Prospective employees must be told before they submit their job application if the company intends to conduct an audit of their social media profiles, and employers cannot force employees to accept their friend requests.

The working party’s opinion is also likely to govern the interpretation of a new and stricter EU law, known as the General Data Protection Regulation, which is due to come into force in May 2018.

Why I actually said it's ******* sad is the first word you used from my quote, The Brag of "I did this to somebody"

If Austin want's to do business like that, That's up to him I couldn't care less.... However why publicly post about "I creeped her Facebook & it cost her an interview" ? Be professional & keep stuff like that to yourself or at least off the intenet.
