So, I haven't heard back from this job yet. But I did get another offer yesterday for a similar job to the one I have now, at a different company even closer to home (2.5miles vs 4.5). I accepted.

FTE status (no more contracting) with a fixed schedule (don't have that now)
35% bump in total comp (I still make nothing lol)
Generous PTO and paid holidays
Tuition reimbursement
401k match

Much excite. I start in 2 weeks, just waiting on the official offer letter so I can sign & return, then I'm going to tell my current job (where I will remain as a PT contractor).

Congrats on the new job!

Curious - how long did you end up making your initial cover letter for the job you haven't heard back from vs the one you got the offer from?

Thanks Shamoo and tron. And yeah I do, just don't know for what.

My old job is watching sports, new job is just watching TV. But clearly the new job isn't gonna pay you to get education so you can take your new knowledge somewhere else. So I'll take a look at the available opportunities and see where I'd like to go, and then see how the schooling might work.

I'm very excited about that detail though, I always wanted to go back to school but I thought I'd be a sucker to pay for it all myself.

Thanks Tim.

The cover letter for that cool job ended up being over 1 page.

I didn't do a cover letter for this one. I already know like 5-6 people who migrated from my current job to the new one, so they recommended me and I just filled out the application online. No need/request for a cover letter.

Basically, yeah. There's a little more to it, but that's the easiest way to describe it.

No lol. We can open our CMS remotely but in my current job we are publishing livestreams of sports events. So when things go wrong, as they always do, you really need to be physically close to a supervisor, who can call the client and alert them.

New job is monitoring of TV networks, with way more viewers. So no WFH for that either.

Honestly I like being at an office. I need an excuse to shower and look presentable.

I'm sure there will be a reimbursement stipulation if you leave the company in X years. The trick here is to get that remaining balance covered by thew new new employer if you're ready to jump before the deadline.

Along with most everyone else, keep it under a single page.

Haha the cover letter job is old news. I've been hired and signed the offer sheet for another job.

The one I was asking for advice on is a political/activism nonprofit in DC. The job I start in 2 weeks is like 2 miles from my house in VA.

What will be really interesting is if the nonprofit job responds and wants to interview me. That's a straight 9-5 office job M-F, which would be great after 3 years of working nights and weekends (which the new job will also require). And they would probably pay much better.

tick tock!

My last day at current job is Friday, I start new job on Monday. Starting to say my goodbyes and get a little sad.

For the first 2-3 weeks I'll be on a regular M-F 8a-4p for training. I'm gonna enjoy the **** out of those couple weeks, because in TV you don't get a nice M-F daytime schedule, ever.

"Training Day" today. Dreading the schedule, but everything else is working out nicely.

Confirmed that employees w/less than five years of service get 3 weeks vacation + 10 sick + 3 personal, all paid. That's...not the norm!

They also do paid holidays, so if you happen to be off on a major holiday, you will be paid for working it. And if you're already getting 40 hours that week, then the holiday gets paid out at time-and-a-half

Fun fact, everyone in my training class at new job (3 people) came from my old job. It's become a bit of a joke in the local broadcasting community which is a pretty small world.

Dats nice, congrats!!! What's the ceiling?

Started with 2, just earned 3 last July when I hit my 5-year mark with the company. Gotta make it to 15 before it goes up again, get 1 day per year of service from 15-20, caps at 4 weeks beyond 20 years.
