Default The Coffee Thread.

I've been getting into this stuff. I know some people who can't live without it.

Lately it's just been the Cafe Latte for me.

Question: Is it pointless to order a Iced Caramel Macchiato upside down?

i start my morning off with a rockstar, then a cup of green tea. after work, if i am exhausted, i cap it off with a small redbull. coffee only tastes good to me when it is in frapuchino form.

I brew my own from a local coffee house. Charbucks FTL. I like a medium to medium-dark roast, typically from the volcanic islands. I prefer to only add some sugar.

Making your own drinks at home for the win!

I usually make my own iced mochas and chocolate syrup. Ends up saving me a TON in the end. Yes the espresso machine and coffee grinder costed me about $150 or so

Usually get around 30- 14 ounce iced mochas in the morning

1lb of coffee - 10$
3gal of soy milk (6 1/2gals) - 18$
Chocolate syrup home made (it has to be home made or it tastes like crap) - 6$ or so

$1.13/ per mocha
vs.
$4.25 / per mocha at star bucks (starbucks raised their prices on everything .50 and .40 for soymilk)

total savings per 1lb bag of coffee - $93.60

better question: is a 500 calorie coffee pointless?

Man it's like crack anywhere you go in Canada. I could drive to timmies right now and there will be at least a 15 car line up at the drive thru.

I do believe theres a few Timmies in the states, mostly New York I believe.

Alright...I've got a very n00b question for you all....

I've only once drank coffee, a long time ago. I've had the Starbucks girly things before (just a few--tasted good). I love the smell of coffee beans, and I wish I could have an air freshner for my car of hazelnut cinnamon.

I think I'd like to try the Latin American blends, but what kind of coffee is "regular"?

I never see "regular" coffee names on the Starbucks' menu...are those hidden because everyone knows what they want? Reason is, I have a $25 GC to Starbucks and there is one on campus...so when I feel like I could use some caffiene, I've wanted to try some, but haven't.

What should I look for?

Thanks

Nope.

A properly-made caramel macchiato (Starbucks style) has the shots put in at the end, poured on top.

When it's done right for an iced drink, it actually looks pretty cool.

But a lot of people don't like it this way -- since the espresso isn't evenly distributed it tastes like sweetened milk at first, and then the concentrated coffee at the end.

Order it upside-down, the shots get mixed in fully and it looks like a plain ol-iced latte with vanilla syrup and caramel.

Back when I was there (a long, long time ago) they'd brew three different types of coffee -- one of their dark roasts, one mild roast in the morning, and a decaf and they'd switch them up every week. They don't brew all 35967 blends every day.

The Latin American is more likely to be the mild roast. I personally prefer the Guatemalan to the Colombian coffees.
