It takes a really good cook to tempt me with Latin American food. It can happen, but it's very unlikely to happen in any chain.

We also have really good Indian restaurants in my part of the world, for the same reason. I'm not sure what's attracted them but we also have a high percentage of Indian immigrants (including Pakistanis, Bengalis, Afghans, Sri Lankans, Kashmiri, Nepalese, and so on....).
I feel like you've made this comment before regarding Mexican food in NoVA but I have yet to find a Mexican food joint in the DC area that compares to what I had in Southern California. Any recommendations?

Agreed, I love it.

And yes it's a separate craving from 'real Mexican food'.

We don't have any Mexicans here, so the real authentic stuff is the Honduran/Salvadoran food.

Idk if you Californians have Bubbakoo’s but it’s better than chipotle imo. I would say moes grill is better than chipotle too

Oyamel, about three blocks from the White House.

El Reconcito, about six blocks.

Even most Mexican that people call traditional is only from the Oaxaca region iirc. So there's a neo-elitism that is based on false stereotypes. It's like eating Southern food in Italy and claiming anything other than that is not real. You can find plenty of good Mexican restaurants but if they don't fit the white elitist stereotype they aren't "authentic". The whole thing is a caricature of cultural knowledge.

That makes sense.

BeeResp0nsible there are also good Peruvian-chicken joints everywhere, I forgot to mention that.

Guapo's, Sardi's, Crisp & Juicy, anything with "Pollo" in the name. That's NoVA's answer to authentic Cali-Mex stuff.

SuperChicken in Tysons in my favorite.

Haven't been there yet but they are all on my list.

I will say the food is awesome here in MS-13 territory.

Ross, I don't want to come off as a dick, but calling an area prevalent with Hispanics 'MS13 territory' is just as bad as 12NV calling an area prevalent with African Americans 'low life territory'

I just got a chipotle to have in the hot springs today...it's 100% going to hit the spot. I did get the extra queso today.

I did see that but have only been to Super Chicken.

This is the one off of Leesburg Pike correct? If so, I've been there and it was good, but definitely different than "Mexican" food. It reminded me of El Pollo Loco (my west coasters will know what this is).

There’s so many legit Mexican places around me that I hardly ever eat Chipotle. Maybe once a year if that. But when I do have it, it’s not bad. 6.5/10

No it's not. Mine is a specific statement that's entirely true. I live in the neighborhood, do you?

If 1 2 lived in the neighborhood and named the gang who runs the territory, that wouldn't really be worth arguing over.

Yeah it's a Peruvian rotisserie chicken joint. I don't think KYJelly or I claimed it was Mexican. That's just our local Latino food that draws on a huge local population for authenticity/accuracy.

So, you assume that every Hispanic person you see in your neighborhood is MS13?

There's a place off Columbia Pike near the Pentagon and State Police that I almost recommended, but thought twice of it.

Reference Ross's comment. :-)

If they don't know that you are not the enemy, it's a little stand-offish.

Yeah man you're making kind of a big leap. Not sure how you get from "I live in MS-13 territory" to "I assume every Hispanic person in my neighborhood is MS-13".

The town I live in (Herndon), and the neighboring towns (Reston and Sterling), are full of MS and everyone knows it (Which is why my house was cheap). That is a fact.

Yeah. That's the one! Any time I'm at the Red Hat office in Tysons, I almost always go there for lunch.

Is Reston that bad? If I move to the area that is more than likely where we would want to buy. Close to my company's office in Tysons and Metro access...

It's not Latin food, but one of my favorite restaurants in the area is Shamshiri off of Westwood. Ugh...so good!
