Default Bourbon taste testing, wtf

ok so I go over my bro in-laws house for dinner.

I had the worst ride ever there, traffic, baby yacked, wife talking to much, etc etc etc

I texted him, I need a drink the second I walk in the door. He hands me a neat glass of bourbon. I start drinking it and Iím like got damn this is smooth. It was insanely easy to drink. I ask him what it is. ******* kirkland premium small batch, aka costco brand. Itís 50% alcohol content.

I drink a lot of bourbon, so I thought ok no way this is that good. Maybe Iím just stressed from the ride and any alcohol would be delicious right now. So he has like 4 other bottles of bourbon. Ranging from like $50-$120. We tried them all. Omfg the kirkland was so much better and easier to drink than all of them. So it is infact delicious. Maybe Iím just not enough of a bourbon snob and I just enjoy something that goes down real easy? Who the **** wants their throat to burn. I donít

Now the only thing was, he had the kirkland in a decanter. I thought they were mostly for show. Not sure if that would have made any difference.

I read the reviews online and nobody is amazed by it. They are saying itís almost as good as **** creek. I dunno wtf they are talking about because **** is my go to bourbon. I literally always have a bottle in the house. Iíve had a glass of neat **** creek atleast 1000 times. There is no way on earth **** creek tastes even close to as good as this kirkland.

Cliff notes: costco bourbon is insanely smooth. But could the decanter change the taste that much?

I traditionally do not share my rare bourbon with noobs because they cannot appreciate the taste. Have bottles that are $500 plus. No thanks. I give noobs kessler with club soda sup.

Oh snap, so I just read a little bit about decanters

Apparently if you store wiskey/bourbon in a decanter, it lets the alcohol evaporate. Now it makes sense.

So I was probably drinking 30-35% alcohol bourbon, hence why it was so easy to drink.

It was pretty damn good though. It was like the alcohol content of drinking bourbon with ice, but without the downside of it being cold and watered down.

Costco small batch is meh.

**** Creek Kentucky straight blows, but their rye isn’t terrible.

Would rather drink $11 Evan Williams over most any bourbon up to about $25, $27.

Not a huge snob or expert, but Basil Hayden, Russell’s Reserve, and Eagle Rare are my splurge bottles(clearly I’m not a GDD doctor or lawyer). Evan Williams and Buffalo Trace are my go to’s.

i dont know, but according to alcohol nerds on forums, the glass slide on lid that they normally have will hardly stop alcohol evaporation.

Thats the only thing that makes sense on why it was so good.

I’m promise I drink a lot of bourbon and it was so freaking good for sipping neat.

Bulleit and ****, always have a bottle of each and pretty much drink a small glass of one every night. The Kirkland I drank was way better.

It had to have suffered alcohol evaporation, its the only thing that makes sense

Well then wtf is Daz wasting our time for then!

Go buy a bottle and let us know if it tastes the same. If not, you know you need to buy a decanter

You can decanter pretty much anything and itíll be smoother after a couple of days. Btw, thereís no Kirkland alcohol thatís bad. Those reviewers are full of it. They have professional tasters go through all that before committing to put their label on the bottle. Kirkland even had a 40yr Glenlivet once. If you drink regularly and youíre not buying Kirkland, youíre stupid.

Kirkland Irish whiskey’s probably bottled at the Jameson plant lol

Well their beer sucks lol but can’t beat 48 cans for 20$.

Blind tasting for high end and 2 buck chuck wines get me every time. Got these professional winos picking 5$ bottles over 100$ bottles all the time.

Kirkland offers some damn good liquor. Although, here in Washington, when their Irish whiskey first came out if cost more than Jameson. The price has come down now, but its still just barely under Jameson. The only problem with Costco is they can't get enough supply to all the stores. The tequila just made it back to warehouses around here after being out for about 4 months.

Damn, if you have to resort to Kirkland beer, they should allow EBT.

As for wine, from my understanding, there’s only a handful of super tasters that can legitimately pin point their origins. There’s even a guy that used to sell forgeries but they’re so good that no one knows how many are in the hands of collectors.

Did you ever watch Somm on Netflix? Those dudes are super tasters.

If I remember correctly, the Costco bourbon is made through either Buffalo Trace or Jim Beam. And their vodka is Goose.
