Its called a Senegal Bichir. One really cool thing about this fish is they have the ability to breath both in and out of water. They can escape tanks and live outside of water for up to a day, thank god mine hasn't tried or he'd probably become cat food. That is until he becomes over a foot long.

No. Oscar + 55 Gallon tank = only fish in tank or a lot of dead African Cichlids. All of these guys will get from 5-7 inches in length.

I was going to just get a single Red Devil in the tank which would decimate any Oscar. Those things are just plan vicious.

Currently I have a 15 gallon "lake" tank.

I have 3 different species of tetra's (about 13 total), 4 danios, A 5" pleco, a bumblebee cichlid, 2 crawfish (one blue one) and some snails.

Soon I'm gonna be upgrading to a 75 gallon tank. I'm gonna get some African cichlids of varying types transfer over my rocks and everything else then the fish last.

I'm gonna have my own game of "fish survivor". However I am gonna try to set it up with lots of hiding places so I can have some community fish as well. people say cichlids cant live with anything but cichlids but a buddy of mine has a similar setup and has done well. Its all about the little fish being able to outrun them to a hiding spot.

Also, Granite > rocks from the pet store, its free and looks way better. I'll try to get some pics soon.

Red Devils are South Americans . Africans dont get much bigger than 5-7 inches.

Cichlids do ok with a number of fish. It certainly limits what you can do but there are quite a few "dither" fish that can do just fine because there so much faster. I also have 5 Giant Danios in my tank, really pretty fish if very healthy.

I got rid of my Red Belly Piranhas a few months ago....

P.S. Hosting your pics to imagestation always does the trick for pic resize.

I've been thinking about getting a small 5 gallon... I'm not sure what I would be able to put in such a small tank though... How often would I need to drain and clean it with one of those filtering systems?

125 gallon tank

Shovel nose catfish eats anything you put in there, eats about 12 gold fish at once, that's why is stomach looks like that, had a blue gill in there about 3 inches long and 4 inches tall and he ate that to.

Video of him swimming with the oscars I use to have, they all died off slowly fighting for territory. I also think the catfish played a role in some of the oscars deaths, maybe not though.

http://www.imagestation.com/vi...&dl=1

Caught this while fishing, he never comes out, he is about 8 inches long I would say, its the only thing the other cat fish won't eat.

Tank filter startup set = 149 (I think)
Gravel = 40-50 dollars (Expensive I know)
Rocks = 40-50 dollars (Also expensive )
Fish = 60-70 (Including dead ones)
Other supplies = 70-80 (Including an extra filter)

If I could do it all over again, I would do 2 main things differently. 1- Buy the setup used, I like being able to setup the tank exactly how I want it but I could have saved quite a bit of money had I gone used. 2- Waited much longer until putting fish in, always start out with some goldfish after a week or so of cycling and sustain them in there for a month or so and THEN start adding the expensive fish.

Where did you buy the gravel at that price, it almost looks like the same gravel I have and I payed about 5 bucks to fill up a hole 150 gallon tank.
