Its a good idea. I heard an apple watch save someone's life couple months back. His watch alerted him of his heart rate being erratic in the middle of the night. He went to the ER.

Series 3

The cool factor of it wore off for my GF after like week 2. She still wears it every day, but she mainly only uses it to text me at work so she doesn’t have to take out her phone, and she uses the “find my iPhone” feature quite a bit.

Agree @ Series 3. My wife just got me a Series 4 and the best way to describe it is a remote for your phone combined with a fitbit. The only real utility is the fitness stuff, and it tells time.

I have a black aluminum S3 GPS and s stainless gold S4 LTE.

The S4 has a better battery and stronger processor.

If you want a simple dial face and four or five complications, the S3 is fine.

The S4 Infograph face with nine complications is something that the S3 cannot do, and the Infograph is interesting and a leap forward in what you can expect a Watch to do. LTE wears down the battery less on an S4.

if you have an S3 and S4 in your hands at the same time, you will notice a small speed difference.

Having said all that, I am wearing the S3 right now. :-)

I never understand people that buy new items that are a generation old. If you’re shopping used, series 3. If you’re buying new, series 4. Why buy something new that’s already out of date?

I feel the series 4 was a big enough update to cover the difference in price.

I thought you were avoiding the s4 because the LTE chip does not support 5g?

I said I wouldn’t buy it because it did not have Band 71, which over the next couple of years will be more important to T-Mobile than 5G on very high frequencies.

Then a a few things happened.

I discovered that that where I might hike without an iPhone, I am covered by Bands 2,4,12.

I saw a stainless/gold Milanese 4, and it looked great.

I handled a 4 and played with the Infograph dials, and they are very nice with all you can see at a glance.

So.

They got got me again!

series 3 refurbished you poor sap.

Seriously though the series 3 is pretty affordable, and unless your GF is without her phone, the LTE feature could be had without.

I would buy a used or refurbished series 3. Because at those prices I would just step up and buy a series 4. I have a few month old series 3 with cellular and Apple Care that I’m probably gonna sell for $279. I can’t link the watch’s cellular to my grandfathered in unlimited Verizon account. You can find good deals on them.

No because it uses the same number as your phone.

Oh it does. It’s like $5 or $10 a month if you decide to activate the cellular.

I was just saying refurbished because he bought a refurbished TV in the other thread so I wouldn't to jab.

I really don't think the lte is worth it because of those reasons. You pay extra to basically have a second phone?

It’s worth it if you have to leave your phone behind. If you run or workout. Me, I can’t have my phone on me at work. Also if you just plain forgot your phone which I’ve been known to do.

This isn’t cellular related but one time I left my phone and wallet in my jacket and forgot to grab the jacket on the way out. Bought lunch with my watch and Apple Pay. That was pretty rad.

I guess...... I mean I'm getting my GF the Samsung watch, only because she has an s8, plus the Samsung watch can be used with IPhones.

But idk justifying an extra 120$/year so she can use her watch as a phone. With coverage can you listen to music with the watch without having the phone? Assuming you have BT headphones?
I could see that as being the only benefit since my GF is a runner.
