Default Anyone getting tired of commercialized "geek culture"?

I love how everything now is "nerdy" or "geeky" even if it is stuff that pretty much everyone is into with everyone trying to pretend they are a bigger geek than the next guy. This leads to embarrassing fake hype fanboy BS that seems to be everywhere now.

Case in point:

I don't pay attention to this stuff, so it doesn't bother me.

OP is mad because he wants to be the only nerd.

People gonna be into what they're into. I think filming yourself 'react' to a movie trailer is dumb af doe but I don't let it bother me.

I know nothing of this culture. I don't watch comic book movies or star wars.

Also, maybe you will know this. Why does everybody speak with an English accent on the Minecraft videos my son watches?

I'd much rather see nerd culture than the bro culture from last decade. That **** made me want to crawl under a rock. lol

You got it lol. No, I just find this kind of amazing that there is a seemingly big online industry of people circle jerking each other regarding who can be the most retardedly excited about something lol.

lol. I think minecraft is way more popular with adults in the UK than it is with adults in the USA, hence most of the videos come from there.

But yeah, every "kid safe" minecraft video my son watches has some english dude as the narrator. Same goes for Terraria.

Capitalism, they are trying to get that money via views, and being outlandish gets you views. Don't know if you know, but it's part of every "culture" that can be monetized.

Makes sense. He watches and plays both. They've got us running around the house talking to each other in English accents.

Never noticed it, and I'm not coming from a holier than though proud to be ignorant to it perspective, I just haven't seen it.

I think if you're exposed to it your looking for it, because it's certainly not one of the thousands of annoying trends that you're exposed to without trying. Probably just in your youtube feed. So that being said, definitely shouldn't be "tired" of it

Star Wars, Marvel Movies and video games aren't geek culture. They're pop culture.

Try telling that to 12-year-old me playing the Collectible Card Game (think 'Magic: The Gathering', but Star Wars)

My girls take pride in their dad being a Star Wars fan back when it was something to be made fun of for.
