Yes. Back when Clinton thought it would be a good idea to back Aristead again. I would never go back. Lots of good folks though.

It's pretty nightmarish. From the plan you can see the border with the Dominican Republic. The dominican is green, lush and beautiful. The haitian side has been either burned or so used up that almost nothing grows there. It is quite shocking, or at least it was back in 2010.

I wouldn't worry, it's only a three on the travel advisory scale. Four's where the advise you draft a will before you go.

I was there in 2017, had a lot of fun. Flew into Cap Haitien and went to the Citadel and Sans-Souci Palace. Wife and I had a lot of fun, albeit had personal transportation and an armed bodyguard.

Generic Pics.

Only one armed bodyguard? Things are better now.

There are certain parts of Haiti that are No-go. I went to Port Au Prince, after the earthquake and it was rough, and felt unsafe, but Cap Haiten was much better. I wouldn't have had a bodyguard at all if my wife wasn't 5'10 and blonde...

I was there when Aristide basically said "if you harm or rob a white person, you're dead" and we still had multiple armed guys with us. None of them were Haitian though. Mostly Canadians and a few US guys. It's the first and only time I've ever actually seen mob mentality. They were going to kill a child because he had stolen a can of spray paint off of a Humvee.

Yeah, It was pretty gritty the first few times I went too, I spent all of my time with the UN guys, so I was never far from protection, but if I had to describe it, I'd say (especially back then) it was like a slice of sub-Saharan Africa 750 miles from Miami...

That's a good way to describe it.

Folks were doing anything to leave there. Even as late as 2006, I hired a Haitian to lead the clean up crew on a commercial site. He spoke 5 languages and was a former school teacher and was happy as hell to make what he made in the VI. None of the stuff I saw earlier really connected or hit me until I met him. I've never feared something so much that I'd give it all up to move to the VI and pick up debris.

This is the best approach. Never go to port au prince, unfortunately it is the capital and that's where their main airport is. Once you leave the capital everything is gravy.

Recently there was another coup de ta, same **** different day in haiti. So, not sure if the drama is over with.

Wolud of loved to go to the citadel

It looks like a beautiful place, but I'd advise staying outside Port Au Prince. Cap Haiten or Jacmel. It's ok if you've already make the reservations though, place looks safe, and is in a safer part of PAP, just don't plan on doing a ton of exploring lol.

Mangos are a tropical fruit, what does a haitain have to do with it? My guess is you're getting them cheap. Hell, just go to florida and start mango crop (if that's possible)

I never liked mangos but i'll take your word for it. Dude, buy some land in haiti and start a farm. This is probably out of your realm

Haitian people are some of the nicest people I've ever met. Any country has their shitty places and unfortunately Haiti just has more of them. I think if you just stay out of the really bad parts then you'll be fine.
