Exception not the rule.

You mentioned a bunch of other guys, all of whom were actually in the top level stock-car series, not the Busch League or NASTRUCK or whatever they call those feeder series now

If you take issue with my use of the phrase "really well" then I will take it back. But IMO just making it to the top series is doing well, even if they don't dominate.

Top-15 driver in any top-tier series is damn good IMO.

Still haven't seen one NASCAR driver actually make the jump to F1, let alone be a top-15 driver. So I still contend that it's an obvious difference.

NASCAR drivers are generally too big to be F1 drivers.

I'd be one of the two or three biggest guys on the F1 grid if I were to land a drive in the series.

Dale Jr is my height & probably 50# heavier.

The feeder series are just not in place in the US for someone to really make the leap to F1. Think of NASCAR as the NBA, the NBA is not dominated by American players because all of the best athletes are exclusively in our country, it is because there are systems in place with the AAU circuit, ABDC camps, IMG & Oak Hill academies, etc. As basketball without borders expands we see dudes like Embiid, Siakam, etc. That goes for F1 too, in the US we don't really have the infrastructure for road racing that we did for circle track stuff (which is dying off at an alarming rate as well).

All true.

CART was an inadvertent feeder series for F1.

It was more like a retirement home.

Mario Andretti raced in the series before and after winning his F1 title, after time in F1 for Nigel Mansell, Stefan Johanssen, Alan Jones (very briefly), Kevin's dad, Derek Daly, Justin Wilson (dominated junior formula abroad, didn't make it in F1, came here after), oh and Emerson Fittipaldi

The only guys who really went from CART to F1 and had any sort of decent careers were: JV (though being a legacy kid helped him big time here), JPM (who did....fine in NASCAR)

The dudes who did well in CART and failed in F1 include: Christiano da Matta (one of my favorites as a kid in CART), Seb Bourdais, Christian Fittipaldi, Michael Andretti

I have no idea what to say about Zanardi, dude has an incredible story but a ton of bad luck in his career + the various injuries.

So why again are we hating this car? What does the hive mind have to say? Weighs too much, not enough power, a let down, doesn't live up to the hype? Oh no! I guess that will affect the single person here who *might* buy it. I still like this car and think it's legit.

Ahh so true. I forget that in 2019 we expect cars to be built of full carbon, have 450 hp, have a 7spd manual, and cost $41k.

I mean the kit is pretty obnoxious but it was more a commentary on how people will make it look nice and that will make them feel nice.

To me simply because it no longer competes with the GTR and NSX

The biggest thing going against it, if you ask me, is that it is too much BMW.

Toyota and Lexus have a Sterling reputation for reliability and dealer involvement, whereas BMW has a miserable reliability record compared to them, and compared to Honda and Acura.

But I still like the idea.

Toyota had BMW ship them an actual motor that would go in the Supra and they went through every single piece of it before they'd give approval. Wonder how much they had BMW change on it.
