iono, i just felt like the supra nameplate deserved better than a gt collabo effort (hence LFA)

also in 2019 335hp is like 20 more than a camry

and no manual

and ******* $50k?!

(Edit, I was expecting more expensive but also more car. R35 GTR is what...$90k msrp with 550hp? I guess these two arent in the same class anymore?)

Is it a twin turbo like a lot of BMWs? Sorry I haven't been following the BMW line too much. If so, sure you can get a lot of power with mods.

But with the N/A I-6, I don't think there's too much you can do to extract additional power unless you do something big like supercharge/turbo it which will probably be $15-20K by the time aftermarket companies get their hands on it.

It's not a Mustang or a Corvette nor is it 1998 anymore, apparently. Thus, GDD hates it.

lesbihonest

its a weird price point and competition
its no longer a Skyline competitor
BMW variant has 45 more hp just cause

i'll be surprised if toyota keeps it in their line up for more than 5 years this time around due to lack of sales

All in all, itís odd that the Supra, most famous for producing huge power figures with its old indestructible 2JZ, will be available with less raw performance than a car lambasted since 2012 for not having enough grunt. Iíve driven one of the Toyobaru Twins and I never found it lacking in poweróit remains a Jalopnik staff favorite all aroundóbut itís still funny that the Supra is a byword for big boost, big numbers.

Where itís really hard to parse things out is that not all that long ago Toyota was talking about a three-model sports car lineup. If the lowest-spec Supra is roughly on par with the 86, a car thatís been around since 2012, you start to wonder if the Supra is replacing that car in the lineup. And if it is, will Toyota be making two other new sports cars to fill out its desired three, or is it falling back on its plan? Why isnít this four-cylinder Supra just called the Celica?

Will replacing rod bearings be a part of routine maintenance for this new Supra?

I love Caymans. If this drives like one that's great. I just can't get over how ugly that front is (I know, I know that's subjective).

Call me crazy, but I really want to see some actual reviews of it before I call it a pile o' crap. Like another sports car option is a bad thing?

I’m just being a dick about the car, admittedly lol

I’m just disappointed that the old Toyota sportcar flagship doesn’t have a Japanese fire breathing power plant in it. And I’m butthurt about it, and I’ll never even own one. But I mean that’s how these “critiques” go, right?

those seats look like they will wrinkle afetr the first fart.

mostly though, it's the fact that they had 20+ years to come up with something better.

The Supra and Z4 share nearly all components, including a 3.0-liter twin-scroll turbo inline six BMW engine (the code is B58, for all you nerds), a BMW platform and an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

What did people really expect though? The only reason the original Supra was/is popular was that people were able to spend $1000 in aftermarket parts and hit 600hp. If not, it'd just be another 300ZX that no one really cares about today. It's not like that original car did anything good except make a boatload of HP.

I know that's somewhat a hot-take, but I'd much rather have an original NSX vs an original Supra. The NSX was just a more sportier car. Now Toyota made a sportier version and people are quick to call it "horrible".

Make up your minds, folks.

They did. They wanted another Japanese rocket ship like their OG Supra so they could go out and race GTR’s. How come nobody gets this? I want a 1200hp Supra. With Drag radials and a fat single turbo on it.

We were a fan of it then. We’re a fan of it now.
