Default 2020 Porsche 911 Speedster debut

The long anticipated Porsche 911 Speedster has finally debuted. Powered by a naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six from the 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 RS, the $274,500 Speedster will get individual throttle bodies which is supposed to aggressively sharpen the response of the engine’s claimed 502 horsepower and 346 lb-ft of torque.

Basically a convertible GT3. Lots of folks saying Porsche is diluting the brand with so many 911 variants and now with so many GT variants. I've always like convertibles and I wouldn't mind having it...not for that price though. You could get a GT3 and one of the many Porsche convertible variants for about the same price.

With a base price of $275K, what's the over/under on the dealer markups lols? Forums are already stating $100-200K and will trump the 911R at its peak. Crazy.

Edit: can't figure out how to make this next link appear as image, so I gave up. HT is weird sometimes.

That combo is set off beautifully by his business casual button-up/sweater combo up top. Mullet in human form.

I think the car looks really bad, like it should be cool but I just really dislike the execution.

Sad part is he's probably some venture capitalist no one's ever heard of and he's first on the list to get one

I don't like those "humps" either, but it is supposed to be a tribute to the original. So I get it. I like your "normal" convertible style.

2009 version:

Original, I think:

I definitely get that, but man it looks bad on a modern car. The original is 10/10 though.

I like it, will never buy it but it's an awesome car. At 275k didn't they sell out like same day? so probably gonna see a huge markup when they sell like 350-400k? At that price hell nah

Like any of those "special" cars, all of the allocations are probably going to VIP owners, celebrities, influencers, etc. I'm sure some of the high volume dealers might get 1 or 2 and sell them at a ridiculous markup. Then over the course of a few months/year(s), those first buyers at MSRP will be selling them too.

Yep. Gimme a "normal" convertible 911 plz. Gonna be a ton of flippers/speculators jumping on this and storing it just because it is limited edition.

Thats what Iím saying. When those original buyers go to sell them I bet 350-400k rip off pricing

I know of somebody that has an allocation for one... You're not far off.

This will definitely speak to the whales with tons of FU money. They want limited production cars that nobody else can get and the GT lineup is wide open with anybody for the money to spend, so they all lack appeal... even the GT2RS.

Sensible Steve says that $275k can buy you a GT3 and 718 Boxster, but I don't have that sort of money anyway, so it's not for me to worry about.

Exactly. I would prefer to do that instead.

Just think that if you were able to get one for $275K....you're probably a special customer wealthy enough to not care. That's also base price. Another $20-40K in options is not unheard of with 911s. Then there are custom CCX options too you can get for absurd money. Want your seats deviated stitched in a color that isn't available? Sure, for $9K you can.

Anyway, cool car tho. Just like a Koenigsegg Agera. Prohibitively expensive, but still cool.

Still, that speedster is 100% awesome. And it's somewhat the reason why the "lesser" models hold their value and desire (except the modern Turbos).

Doesn't the Koenigsegg start at 3 mil?

That car is a whole 'nother level.

I love the white carbon fiber.

I saw 3 GT3's and a GT2RS just this past saturday at my podunk local C&C. I dont even glance at them anymore. Same for this car, ill just be like "look another idiot with too much bloody money" like Nick Cage in gone in 60 seconds if I see one and go walk to the cool old school or custom made stuff thats actually interesting.

The only thing to talk about with a modern Porsche seems to be "oh cool build spec" or "wow nice options"...like wtf.

How is this different than any other car? Ferrari, Corvette, S2000, NSX, etc?

With the Corvette, there's the depreciation factor to talk about. Along with jean short fitment and punisher decals.

Otherwise, there's always the same make/models at a C&C. Guys with huge money cars don't bring them out that often, so you get a good mix of $50K-$200K cars.

Speedster looks pretty much just like a 911 cab.
