I’ve tried to file every way possible, they just adjust the rates to bone you since they know you are trying to circumvent it.

At the point where I may go into a person that’s been recommended who can figure out what the ideal scenario is.

I have no idea how to even approach the married stuff if we should file jointly or separately... I'm going to move away from TurboTax this year and use the dude that does my wife's business tax crap.

How is that a tax haven? If she works, you can claim the same amount for your kids.

Hmm I see. That dont make sense to me that you should owe with zero allowances. Tax code is some BS

This... The U.S. requires it's citizens to file no matter where they live/ work. Lived and worked in Canada for 9 years, and I had to file both Canadian and US taxes, but since I paid in Canada, I filed with the US as "foreign income tax paid" and it basically offset anything that I would owe. The first few years I actually got a refund of a few hundred a year just as a "perk" of filing the paperwork right for the most part.

Taxcaster says we're getting around $8K back. Been the same for the past several years.

Too afraid to play it close to breaking even, we are right on the fence of jumping from the 12% to 22% bracket this year, which would mean probably no refund

Hopefully the increased child deduction will keep us in that lower bracket for another year.

yeah I owe just under $200. its not so bad. its not like they charge the entire income at 22% just the last few bucks.

Will probably get 5 figures back. Upped my 401k contributions this year and childcare is tax deductible. Wife got out of that MLM scheme that crushed our returns last yr - had to file an S-corp and claim her unsold "inventory"

Oh... dammit. Completely forgot my wife got involved in some skin care bullshit this last year. Not super active with it, just wanted to be able to order for herself and family, but I really hope that doesn't come back to bite us and eat into any possible return.

Got my W-2 last night. This is the first time in about 5 years where I didn't have 1099 income, so gone are the days of paying $20k+ to the IRS. I was so excited to get a refund this year....

.... But for some reason I owe $832!

Changing my W-4 to claim 0 now. Hopefully next year I'll get a $5.00 refund.

Do you guys have inventory or does your wife drop ship her orders with the company? if it's the former, and you're not doing this under the table, then you're on the hook and she'll have to file as a business. You might be able to deduct expenses and mileage (it aint much) but anything you have in stock will have dollar amount attached to that is a tax liability. ... or don't claim it at all and hope the IRS doesn't know.

Any inventory she has is like a whole box of 1"x1" cotton face wipes when she ordered too many, don't think she has much beyond that. Folks order through her, it gets delivered to us, she takes it to them. Has really not been super active with it, maybe 5-6 orders since she started, but I'd expect the parent org to have her on file with a 1099 so definitely not trying to dodge the IRS. I like to keep .gov as far away from my personal affairs as possible.

I’m getting about $570 back. I paid $1K less in taxes this year, but made less money, as I did not do any OT in 2018. So I broke even with 2017? Whatever.

I just want to break even but am not confident that's the case. As long as I break even, I am going to finish my basement this year

Yeah for some reason collecting the money isn't an issue, but sending out the refunds might be a problem.
