Default 2 car choices.....one to buy

As you some of you know, I was looking for another car to get.

I've narrowed it down to two I like and I'll go with either one.

2001 Mercury Cougar (sport edition) 19k miles

2001 Hyundai XG300L 52k miles

I know they are both completely different cars but they fit my 'affordability' and I like them both. I just cant decide what'll be better for a 22 year old (me) should drive for the next 3-4 years. If it makes a difference, I plan on getting married within the time frame of owning this car. And I will be driving out of town a lot as well.

HT Help me out with opinions/suggestions.

I will make the final decision. Thanks.

Or any cars $12k and under

horrible choices.

3k CX Hatch
8.5k for a K20A2 + Tranny
2k for Advan RG's and Tires
$100 for 2 Advan Stickers
$1k for Tein SS

There built you one for less than 15k.

i agree that those are some horrible choices. i would buy neither a Hyundai nor a Mercury (unless it was the Murauder).

i saw that you're sort of planning for the future with a family and all. have you considered a 2000+ galant?

Out of those two I'd pick the Merc. I've heard nothing but bad about the Hyundais. Even though they have an awesome warranty, being in the shop every few months for warranty work becomes quite a pain.

If you're really set on those cars, good luck. If not, you could give us a price range and we could try and set you down the road to something a little better as far as reliability.

i third the bad choices...hyundai's don't hold their value worth a ____. all i know about cougars is from my roommate, who has a 99, and his has all sorts of problems hondas don't start getting until they're in the upper 100K's in miles. if you had to choose, i guess go with the hyundai- they seem to have great warranties, just don't expect to get any money back when you sell it

Ouch, if those are the choices.....I say neither. Get a lates 90s accord, and you'll be str8 for 100,000 miles without problems. Oh and its a honda. AKA not a pile.

i just did a quick search for the hell of it and you can get a '99 nissan maxima se for 11,995.

in your affordability range and a HELL of alot better than a hyundai or a mercury. more reliable and probably better resale value.

just trying to help out.

Both choices suck to me but since it's your choices i'd go with the 2001 Mercury Cougar (sport edition) 19k miles

In that situation, I would pick the Hyundai. But like just about everyone else said, those aren't good choices.

as has been said several times: try some new choices. The quality on those cars will make you cry.

Stick to Honda or Toyota, you can get a 4-year old Accord EX for that price.

Thanks. Reason why I'm down to these two choices is b/c of the dealer I'm buying from. He's paying me more than book value for my current car and paying off the loan on it. Plus giving me a low interest deal on another car.

Those are the 2 cars on his lot that I liked in that range. I test drove the HYundai XG300 and suprisingly it was very luxurious and dead quit inside. I even took it on the interstate and flew and it was dead quit. I was impressed. I also inpsected the interior on th XG300 and found it to be quite solid. A lot more solid than My prelude. The only thing is its one heavy car for just 200hp. It does had shiftronic on it but I still preffer stick.

I haven't test driven the Cougar yet.

I know these choices kind'a stink to a lot of people. But I don't want to get and Accord or Civic.

VW was kind'a in view but I'm not so sure.

If the cougar is automatic, do NOT get it. I used to have a cougar and the auto trannys are garbage. Mine went at 29k miles and I didnt even beat on it, it just went. Luckily was under warranty. I would go with the 01 cougar provided its a manual, v6 and it has SOME kind of warrantee w/it.

Eww.. Geez...

I'd look into getting a 96-97 Honda Accord... 4 door, sporty and tuneable with an h22.
