Default 1 week of Houston Uber experiences...

Starting a new job in Houston and just grabbed an Airbnb near work until I get moved into a permanent place. I'm coming from Nashville so instead of dealing with parking until I get I get my work garage pass spot I decided to almost exclusively use Uber and, well, good lawd lol.

First week:

One full on wreck.

Two instances of turning into traffic on a one way street. One of which into full 2-3 lanes of oncoming downtown Houston traffic.

One fully blown red light.

A former "waitress" at "The Church" strip joint who kept hinting at having some side business services outside of Uber lol.

Wanted to add a stop to go by the store on the way home just to grab a few quick items, driver knew a "good" place and took me to his "padna's" corner store which only had about 37 crack heads wandering around outside like something out of night of the living dead.

Is this normal or have I just been extremely lucky lol? Needless to say getting that parking pass paperwork finished has moved up the priority list.

The only accident is choosing Uber in the first place

Yes. Uber driver and another driver both merged into the same lane at the same time, other driver basically pit maneuvered us and then took off for the hit and run bonus. No injuries though so no biggie on my end. I even gave the driver 5 stars and a tip because I knew his day was going to be a lot worse than mine.

I was in Houston for training recently and found the driving/traffic to be fairly frightening to deal with. And I lived in the DC metro area for most of my life...

I can only imagine lol.

My best/dumbest was some local Taiwanese college kids pressuring me into getting a scooter in Taiwan so I could high tail it around town and the mountains with them. They asked me if I knew how to ride one, which I said yes (as in it's been 10 years but technically yeah), so they took that as me having 100% full Taiwanese scooter skills and took off like a bat out of hell immediately into traffic expecting me to follow. I did, but for the first 10 minutes or so I was 99% certain I was going to die lol.

But after that it was freaking awesome.

I personally feel that the drivers for Lyft are better than what I have run into with Uber. I have tested this on the 2 times I've gone to Vegas for business and I wouldn't go back to Uber ever.

Every car I see driving for uber also has the lyft light in their car as well. It's basically the same pool of drivers.

In my experience the driving itself has been fine. I get in, say hi, sometimes make small talk. The worst part is Uber drivers generally don't know where the **** they're going and rely on the app. If I need to get somewhere quick I'll take a cab because those guys drive like maniacs and get you where you need to be fast.

got into a pissing contest with some taxi driver in a sienna, ****** held up traffic on the far left lane, passing lane, so when i went to the far right to pass up a car in the middle lane to get back into the far right he tried to speed up. NOPE not happening.

Cliffs: Houston.

Kind of a wild place out there unless you're in the surburbs.

Can't say my experiences have compared. I had a week vacation in New Orleans recently and used Lyft and Uber the whole time. Got stuck with annoying people that didn't stop talking and an old lady who farted in the car a lot but other than that nothing bad.

This is my experience too. I always use cabs over uber for work. Just name the intersection and they get you there quick.
