Not right now..too hot at the outdoor range...I'll wait til it cools off a bit then I'll go shoot it.

I looked into the magpul stock too...but I don't really like it..I only wanted it for the detachable mag feature, but it only works on long actions, not short actions...

Might double check that. guy at work has a magpul stock for his 700 in 308 which I thought was a short action

just double checked this says works for short action calibers

Why not .458 SOCOM?

I didn't buy a .308 because

A) longest range close by is 200 yards

B) already had a bunch of .223

C) didn't want to spend the money on ammo to shoot 200 yards.

I'm just paper punching after all...

I guess I'm lucky to have moved from the Urban areas and have plenty of place to shoot that are well beyond 200yds.

I actually scored on some .223 a few years back. Local place screwed up an order, wated to order 50 cases, but ordered 500. Scooped up a couple 200 rd cases of Rem .223 for $25 a case.

For those pesky Cape buffalo in the back yard?

You guys are crazy if that's anything like .458 Magnum. I've fired a few rounds of those, and it's not something that I would choose to do...if I had a choice.

:-)

No such thing as too much. I know of some 500+ pound black bears killed within 2 miles of my house. Also just cause 'Merica!!

Its not like the Magnum. Its more like a .45-70 equivalent designed for semi-auto applications, especially the AR platform.

Oh. .45-70 isn't that hot.

Maybe that's not so bad. :-)

IIRC, the original design intent was for subsonic suppressed applications.

I think that's 300 blackout you're thinking of.

AFAIK 458 socom was designed as a 1 shot man stopper.

After some searching, the answer is both. Stopping power was the main impetus behind the creation, but one of the design requirements was for subsonic suppressed capability as well.

Sig stopped by today and brought in their new optics lineup. Messed around with one of their thermal units...man, so badass!

Interestingly enough, the 458 SOCOM (not Italia, though that would have been cool too) AR rifle was developed a few miles away from where we live in Tulsa. I'm fairly sure they've since moved from that shop though.

As I understand it, the round was developed with the intent for increased lethality with AR configurability with sound suppression as the design parameters.

Also, it looks like +P rounds of 9mm are the new "bear stoppers."

Buffalo Bore! That's the only round I absolutely trust in my pocket .380's. Buffalo Bore .380 +p has ballistics comparable to 9mm +p rounds from most other ammo manufacturers. I can only imagine their 9/.40/.45 tests

The saga continues. I got the cart ahead of the horse. Called the FFL dealer that has my suppressors. He does indeed have them but cannot hand them over to me. My form 3 is done but we are waiting for my form 4. So October/November it is.

Olympics Sponsors Want Nothing to Do With Team USA Shooters - Bloomberg

Please don't be prejudiced because the article is on Bloomberg.

We should be promoting responsible guns in the USA and it is something to be proud of.

But it is starting to sound like people in general do not believe it is possible to even be a responsible gun owner.

People like Ms Rhode should be supported by their countrymen, and not forced to struggle for money while they pursue their sports.
