Default THE OFFICIAL H-T MILITARY THREAD (all services)

If you have any questions on the military about joining i.e.jobs, pay, benefits...please post here. I am more the happy to try to answer all of your questions. I am sure that other military H-T members will try to as well. This thread will also serve as a gripe/bytch/moan and advice place for us.

Ask away!

I know anyone can do THAT...but I'm trying to explain this stuff to people from people that are actually in....little more personal...gives a "human" touch to things.

My brother whom served in Iraq for 6 months is a 1st Lt for the USAF, I don't know his pay rate but he is an officer . He is currently stationed in Ramstein AFB Germany but getting moved to Arizona I believe flagstaff .

Military gets a BIG .

My oldest brother was in the navy I believe he was an e-5 or something and was a nuclear mechanic but is now out...but he served in the first gulf war .

Really depends on the branch of the military...

In the USAF we have a Staff Sgt, Tech Sgt, Master Sgt, Senior Master Sgt, and Chief Master Sgt.

EDIT: There are also special duty assignments within the Sgt ranks like First Sgt, Command Chief Master Sgt, and Chief Master Sgt of the Air Force. Any senior NCO can be a First Sgt, they are basically a liason between enlisted and officer ranks.

Well, we don't have a Cpl. In the Army as far as I know, after PFC, aka E3 you get promoted to a "specialist". Which is the equivalent to a Senior Airman in the USAF. Afterwards you are promoted to Cpl in the army before Sgt. We used to have a rank called "Buck Sgt" which is the equivalent I believe.

EDIT: There is nothing after Chief. That's the end of the road. Usually most Chiefs are crusty old dogs anyhow with 25+ yrs. of service.

USMC MOS 2651 Special Intelligence System Administrator/Communicator - Been in for almost a year now.

Semper Fi Marines.
http://www.grunt.com &lt;-check it if your a Marine.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Marine By God

The USMC is over 219 years of romping, stomping, hell, death and destruction. The finest fighting machine the world has ever seen. We were born in a bomb crater, our mother was an M-16 and our father was the devil.

Each moment that I live is an additional threat upon your life. I am a rough looking, roving soldier of the sea. I am cocky, self-centered, overbearing, and I do not know the meaning of fear, for I am fear itself. I am a green, amphibious monster made of blood and guts who arose from the sea, festering on anti-Americans throughout the globe. Whenever it may arise, and when my time comes, I will die a glorious death on the battle field, giving my life to mom, the Corps, and the American flag.

We stole the eagle from the Air Force, the anchor from the Navy, and the rope from the Army. On the 7th day, while God rested, we over-ran his perimeter and stole the globe, and we've been running the show ever since. We live like soldiers and talk like sailors and slap the hell out of both of them. Soldier by day, lover by night, drunkard by choice, MARINE BY GOD!!! </TD></TR></TABLE>

I guess there are 3 elements in the u.s. military too? (army/navy/AF)
I was just trying to compare the equivalent of what a ssgt would be in the canadian forces.
We were told to learn the ranks of at least the U.S army just incase we work with them... i still dont know. all i know is that if there are more bars under the 3 chevrons, the higher rank of sgt they are.
