zero compression with rebuilt head

I have zero compression in 1, 3, and 4 cylinders. I have 30 in number 2. I checked timing and it looks good. Its has a rebuilt head (shop vacuum checked head, its good) a new head gasket. I'm using ARP studs, when I installed the head the guide pins were not on the head, I figured the studs would act like guide pins so I did not put them back on. Can not having the guide pins cause me to have not compression? Has that ever happened to anybody here?

BACKGROUND:
The engine was running good, but the spark plug hole was stripped in the number three cylinder. I took the head off took it to a shop to get it fixed, they told me the head has a small crack. So I ended up getting a core and they rebuilt a head for me. I also picked up some ARP head studs and adjustable cam gears. I'm pretty sure I installed them correctly.

Also when I installed the head I turned it clockwise about 1/2 a turn. I have low comp pistons, I heard that even if the piston is in TDC and the valves are all they way open they will not hit. Does anybody know if that is true? When I turned it I did not fill any significant pressure that I would think that would cause a valve to bend.

Did you do any valve lash adjustment after installing the cams?

Adjust your valve lash.

Re: zero compression with rebuilt head (Clutch101)

Im stupid when it comes to doing head work. Whats a valve lash? I lost my helms manual awhile back otherwise I would look it up.

The machine shop adjusted the valves and gave me the head with cams bolted on. But I had to take the cams off to bolt the head to the block. So every time you remove your cams you have to adjust your valve lash?

Thanks for all the quick replys https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif
