ZC Turbo Update - Pics and Info; Questions too...
Well I had some freetime here so i'm posting just a couple pics in response
to last big post which showed my homemade turbo job.
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=396090
Here's a run down of what i've done.
Car:
1990 Civic STD Hatch (about 300,000 miles)
Engine:
ZC (swap 7 years old!)
Si Tranny
Jimfab Mounts / Windowweld 3M mounts
Stock Clutch / Flywheel
Stock Axles
2" Cat Back (no Cat) Exhaust
Turbo:
T25 DSM Factory New Turbo (now about 2000 miles)
STD Manifold / TwinTurbo GJC Adapter Plate
Dropshop 2.5" Downpipe
All custom fitted lines
Bosch O2 sensor
Volvo Piping (2.0") and JDM Blitz BOV
Baker Precision Couplers and Volvo Silicone Bends
K and N special order filter
Starion re-welded intercoolr
Fuel Injection:
DSM Blue 450cc injectors / Stock bored seals (work great!)
VTEC drilled fuel rail
AEM FPR / AN6 Line from Filter
Walrbo 255 LPH in take fuel pump
Nordskog Fuel Pressure Gauge and Sender
ZDyne Gold ECU
NGK V Power BCPR6E - 11 (#5632) Plugs - gapped to .035"
Pics:

A clean pic of my car...stock paint for almost 300K...
http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/nosajuf...ech-Civic2.jpg
VTi power at work...along with Fuel Pressure gauge, crappy A/F gauge...
in the center are ISSPRO Boost (manifold pressure calibrated to only 15lbs
so it's easy to see) and ISSPRO Oil Pressure Gauges...
http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/nosajuf...ech-Civic3.jpg
Shot of my buddy Joel at Honda on a Sat helping to put the new Walbro in...
old bolts were fine although I bought ALL new ones...easy to do when it's
up on the lift...not when it's on the ground...no wiring changes, works great!
Sounds like airplane landing gear when the fuel pump starts up...
http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/nosajuf...ech-Civic4.jpg
Basic engine shot...
http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/nosajuf...ech-Civic5.jpg
Another shot...
Impressions:
Once I got the plugs gapped better the car run much nicer...fuel pump also
help quite a bit. It needs to be dynoed tuned so I can get a nice Zdyne
program up and running. It is MUCH faster than just the stock ZC and it
has lots of torque now! I can't wait to get it tuned...i'm sure the small
exhaust isn't helping either...
Questions:
1. Should I gap my plugs even narrower? ... 0.030"? This tremendously
helped when I moved it from 0.045" to 0.035" last night!
2. Where should my optimum fuel pressure be under boost...you saw my
fuel setup...
3. What do ya'll think?
Thanks - Jason
OPPS, here's the pics

1)Most of us run plug gaps between .33 and .28 I'd say .30 is a happy medium.
2) Your fuel pressure should be stock ~ 43psi in vaccume and base + boost pressure anything above that. @ 10psi you should have 53psi or so
3)Very CLEAN car and engine dude. I Love a turbo 4th gen in any form

Nothing wrong with the much maligned ZC a little turbo loving can't cure. Looks pretty sweet.

MORE Questions...
I'm changing that plug gap again!
1. The old plugs I took out looked charred white? Burn't white...nothing
brown in color...They were only about 1000 miles old too...what does
this tell me?
2. What's the best way to bend the electrodes down on the plugs?
Thanks - Jason

Re: MORE Questions... (NosajCivic)
1) Charred white = lean fuel condition
2) Just tap them with your spark plug gapper a few times, the resize them to what gap you're shooting for.

Re: MORE Questions... (Speed PHreak)
My air fuel gauge (yes not a wideband) says almost full rich when im under
full throttle and fuel pressure rises linearly to almost 45psi...can I still go
lean given these details?

Re: MORE Questions... (NosajCivic)
you should throw your a/f meter in the toolbox or sell it. The only and I mean ONLY time you can trust what it is reporting is when the target a/f is around 14.5:1.
Do you hear any ping or detonation? Is there little bits of aluminum on the insulators?
It's possible to go lean under your set up given that info. Your fuel pressure could be any thing but if your injectos aren't open long enough, you'll go lean.
Have you taken your car to a dyno and tuned that Zdyne?... Those things are great. I had a set up very similar to yours a couple years ago and it was fun.
Tune that bitch and be done with it.
